About The Position

The SCADA Engineer I contributes to the development, integration, deployment, and support of Mesa's SCADA and telemetry systems used to monitor and control distributed power generation assets. Working under the guidance of experienced engineers, this position supports the full telemetry data path; from industrial controllers and Linux-based edge devices through secure communications, cloud services, databases, and user-facing applications. This role combines elements of SCADA engineering, software development, Linux systems engineering, industrial networking, and operation technology cybersecurity. The SCADA Engineer I develops foundation expertise across these areas while helping maintain the reliability, security, and performance of Mesa's connected fleet.

Requirements

  • 4 Year / Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, Information Systems, Automation Engineering, or a related technical discipline from an accredited university; and/or any equivalent combination of relevant education, technical training, and experience.
  • Any demonstrated experience through employment, internships, coursework, personal projects, military service, or technical training in software development, Linux systems, networking, embedded systems, industrial automation, cloud services, databases, or a related technical area.
  • Foundational understanding of software-development concepts, including variables, data structures, program flow, error handling, debugging, and source control.
  • Foundational understanding of Linux operating systems, command-line tools, processes, services, permissions, filesystems, logging, and package management.
  • Basic understanding of IP networking, including addressing, subnets, ports, routing, DNS, firewalls, and client-server communication.
  • Familiarity with SCADA, telemetry, industrial automation, PLCs, instrumentation, or operational technology concepts.
  • Ability to read, understand, modify, and troubleshoot code or scripts in at least one programming language.
  • Ability to use logs, command-line tools, application data, and technical documentation to methodically investigate problems.
  • Ability to distinguish and troubleshoot issues across hardware, operating systems, networks, protocols, applications, databases, and cloud services.
  • Awareness of cybersecurity principles such as least privilege, defense in depth, secure remote access, network segmentation, patching, encryption, and credential protection.
  • Ability to read technical documentation, network diagrams, wiring diagrams, protocol specifications, and system architecture diagrams.
  • Strong analytical thinking, curiosity, attention to detail, and effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage assigned tasks, communicate blockers, meet established deadlines, seek guidance appropriately, and work effectively across engineering disciplines.
  • Ability to learn new technologies, apply feedback, and balance development speed with reliability, cybersecurity, safety, and maintainability.
  • Must be able to fluently speak, write, and read in English.
  • Will be required to carry a cell phone and be available to respond during working and non-working hours
  • Willing to consent to and pass a background check and drug screening.
  • Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) required.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours including occasional evenings and weekends as required.

Nice To Haves

  • 2 years of relevant experience in SCADA, telemetry, software development, Linux systems, industrial networking, controls, operational technology, or a related field.
  • Honorably discharged service veterans are preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, test, deploy, and maintain software supporting SCADA, telemetry, device management, and power generation applications.
  • Assist with the configuration and support of Linux-based telemetry and industrial edge devices.
  • Support the integration of telemetry devices with PLCs, controllers, sensors, instrumentation, and third-party equipment.
  • Develop and maintain data acquisition, processing, alarming, logging, and communication functionality.
  • Assist with backend services, APIs, databases, messaging systems, and cloud integrations used to collect and deliver operational data.
  • Configure and troubleshoot industrial and network communications, including serial, ethernet, cellular, satellite, and VPN-based connectivity.
  • Diagnose hardware, software, application, networking, protocol, and data-quality issues throughout the SCADA environment.
  • Participate in code reviews, testing, validation, commissioning, deployment and production support activities.
  • Collaborate with Software Engineering, IT, Controls, Cybersecurity, Manufacturing, Service, and Operations teams to deliver reliable SCADA solutions.
