About The Position

This position performs responsible technical work dispatching equipment and personnel, customer service, and performing clerical duties in support of the Electric, Gas, Water and Sewer utilities and Public Works daily and emergency operations. The work consists of related duties in the dispatching of personnel and equipment. Frequent interruptions and urgent nature of calls contribute to the complexity of the position. The purpose of this position is to participate in the dispatch and SCADA system operations. Success in this position results in the provision of utilities for system customers.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • One (1) year of experience in a related field.
  • Or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Possession of a valid North Carolina Driver’s License with an active and consecutive 3-year verifiable driving history.
  • Driving history will be checked.
  • SCADA milestones MUST be met by one year evaluation, employee will be terminated.
  • At the end of the 6- month period be able to utilize the SCADA system to perform hot line tags, reclosures, and breaker controls with supervision.
  • At the end of the 12- month period be proficient in advanced utilization of the SCADA system to perform hot line tags, reclosures, breaker controls, and other functions related to monitoring and operating electric and natural gas distribution systems, equivalent to Dispatcher II responsibilities.
  • Knowledge of two-way radio operation.
  • Knowledge of the electric and natural gas distribution systems.
  • Knowledge of basic SCADA system operations.
  • Knowledge of modern office practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of customer service policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Receives calls from internal and external customers by two-way radio and telephone; dispatches assignments to field personnel; relays necessary information clearly and accurately.
  • Receives, generates, updates, assigns, and closes service orders using various software programs to include the Customer Information System, Outage Management System, Utilities Dispatch, Geographical Information System, and NC One Call System.
  • Knowledge of basic SCADA system operations to view and acknowledge alerts.
  • Develops and maintains various reports and spreadsheets and handles outgoing mail.
  • Make calls to customers to schedule appointments for field personnel on-site work.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
