About The Position

We are seeking an innovative, organized, and patient-centered Medical Assistant to join our pioneering School-Based Health Center team. As a Traveling Medical Assistant (Telehealth), you will play a critical role in expanding healthcare access to students directly within their school environment. You will travel between assigned school campuses, set up state-of-the-art telehealth equipment, and facilitate real-time virtual clinical examinations. Acting as the on-site "hands and eyes" for our remote primary care providers, you will ensure students receive high-quality, seamless, and compassionate clinical care without having to leave their school building. Fleet Advantage: A dedicated company vehicle is provided for all travel between school sites. Gas, maintenance, and insurance are fully covered by the organization—no usage of your personal vehicle is required for work-transit.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or General Education (GED). Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program.
  • Current Basic Life Support/CPR (BLS/CPR) certification
  • Minimum (2) years medical assistant experience preferred and (1) year minimum Primary Care experience.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one on one and small group situations to patients, other employees of FCPC and the public.
  • Ability to educate patients/families and to provide instructions at the patient’s level of understanding.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Previous exposure to electronic patient management systems.
  • Ability to acquire working knowledge of EMR and Scheduling software.
  • Ability to operated Windows 7 Operating System, Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Ability to use/operate stethoscope, EKG machine, pulse oximeter, oxygen devices, wheelchairs, stretchers, scales, glucose monitor, blood pressure, and other patient care equipment necessary to perform required duties as appropriate to the scope of the practice.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Must maintain an excellent, clean driving record eligible for full coverage under our corporate auto insurance policy
  • Ability to use telephone, fax machine, scanner, copier, and other similar equipment typically found in a physician office setting.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification as medical assistant preferred through CMS recognized certification organization.
  • Experience in pediatrics, family medicine, or school health settings is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Set up, operate, and troubleshoot portable telehealth equipment (including digital otoscopes, electronic stethoscopes, and high-definition examination cameras).
  • Assist remote providers during virtual exams by positioning equipment, executing requested physical checks, and acting as the clinical liaison on the ground.
  • Prepare students for their virtual visits by obtaining accurate vital signs (blood pressure, pulse, temperature, height, and weight) and gathering brief medical histories.
  • Perform basic on-site laboratory tasks as directed by clinical protocols (e.g., rapid strep, rapid flu, glucose monitoring, or urinalysis).
  • Accurately record all patient vitals, intake information, and test results in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system in real time.
  • Safely operate the provided company vehicle to travel efficiently between designated school locations according to a structured daily or weekly schedule.
  • Care for, sanitize, and securely pack all mobile clinical gear and telehealth equipment before and after every school visit.
  • Ensure the provided company vehicle is kept clean, fueled, and report any scheduled maintenance or mechanical needs promptly to operations.
  • Build positive, professional relationships with school nurses, administrative staff, and principals to ensure smooth coordination of student care.
  • Create a warm, safe, and calming environment for pediatric and adolescent patients who may feel anxious about medical visits.
  • Maintain strict adherence to patient confidentiality guidelines, balancing HIPAA privacy standards with FERPA requirements relevant to school environments. Adhere strictly to infection control standards across all mobile settings.
  • May be required to float to other practices as directed by Management.
