About The Position

The SBDC Region Director is responsible for directing all regional operations of the SC SBDC program. This includes managing personnel, business planning and management, program compliance, and related operations. The role also involves coordinating continuing education programs to meet market needs and ensuring compliance with all applicable federal, state, university, and SC SBDC laws, regulations, policies, and ASBDC Accreditation Standards. The Director will assist the State Director with program compliance, statewide initiative development and implementation, strategic planning, policy and procedure administration, accreditation preparation, and the resolution of management issues. In terms of client consulting and training, the Director will manage area offices within the region, supervise employee performance, and provide high-quality counseling and consulting services to prospective and existing small business owners. They will also conduct and participate in client training programs, workshops, and educational initiatives. Additionally, the role supports the SC SBDC technology commercialization program by identifying commercialization opportunities, connecting clients with resources, and developing partnerships. Budget administration and fiscal management are key, involving managing the regional operating budget, annual budget development, financial analyses, expenditure monitoring, and report submission. Finally, the Director will serve as an official representative of the College of Business & Technology and the SC SBDC, planning and overseeing outreach, public relations, and stakeholder engagement activities to promote services and build strategic partnerships.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Professional experience managing multiple departments, personnel and operating budgets.

  • Master’s degree in business administration or a relevant field.
  • Experience in entrepreneurial, small-business ownership, business consulting, strategic planning, program administration, financial oversight and stakeholder engagement.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as an official representative of the College of Business & Technology and the SC SBDC, planning and overseeing outreach, public relations and stakeholder engagement activities.
  • Promotes awareness and utilization of SC SBDC services through collaboration with university departments, elected officials and the regional business community.
  • Develops and maintains strategic partnerships that leverage resources to support small business growth and maximize program outcomes.
  • Establishes and maintains cooperative working relationships within the College of Business & Technology and with other university departments to advance initiatives.
  • Represents the SC SBDC at community, business and economic development events to strengthen visibility and stakeholder engagement.
  • Ensures outreach and partnership activities align with SC SBDC goals, priorities and strategic objectives.
