About The Position

The SBA Eligibility Review Officer III reviews SBA- and USDA-guaranteed business loans to assess their structure and ensure they close in accordance with program eligibility requirements. The role serves as a subject matter expert in SBA servicing procedures and consults with sales, underwriting, and closing colleagues across HNB markets. The individual manages a pipeline that typically includes loans of advanced complexity and customer exposure up to $5 million. The officer assesses borrower, co-borrower, and guarantor eligibility; reviews use of proceeds and supporting reports and documents; orders SBA numbers; prepares SBA loan authorizations and other forms; and determines whether SBA/USDA requirements and credit approval terms and conditions are met. The position also researches complex servicing questions, supports colleagues involved in loan recovery and resolution, may prepare final wrap-up reports for the SBA, and may act as the main contact for commercial loan servicing on SBA loan accounting and reporting. The role includes training and mentoring new hires and supporting SBA ERO I and II job families.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of HNB SBA/USDA lending or due diligence experience, or a minimum of 7 years of direct SBA/USDA lending or due diligence experience.

Responsibilities

Serve as the subject matter expert in SBA servicing procedures and consult on government-guaranteed loan programs with sales, underwriting, and closing colleagues throughout HNB markets.
Maintain an individual work pipeline, typically involving loans of advanced complexity and customer exposure up to $5 million.
Assess borrower, co-borrower, and guarantor eligibility to help ensure the SBA guarantee can be enforced when needed.
Work with internal SBA Sales and Operations colleagues to explain SBA and USDA guaranteed loan programs, understand credit requests, obtain eligibility information, and communicate eligibility decisions and reasoning.
Review use of proceeds, order SBA numbers, prepare SBA Loan Authorizations and other SBA forms, and ensure loans meet SBA and USDA requirements.
Review reports and information relevant to SBA/USDA eligibility and determine whether credit approval terms and conditions will be met, including reviewing franchise agreements, purchase agreements, bank notes, and business plans.
Research and resolve complex servicing questions from the SBA and internal personnel to help maintain the guaranty.
Advise Financial Recovery Group colleagues, when requested, on working out, liquidating, and litigating SBA loans; submit final wrap-up reports to the SBA when required.
Serve, as needed, as the main point of contact for commercial loan servicing colleagues to support proper accounting and reporting of SBA loans, including the 1502 Report.
Train and mentor new hires and support the SBA ERO I and SBA ERO II job families.
Perform other tasks as needed to support the line of business and job family, and other duties as assigned.
