About The Position

Amherst College invites applications for the Saxophone Instructor position. This is a part-time, casual position with no benefits. The Music Department is seeking a saxophone instructor to teach individual lessons on an hourly basis. The number of students cannot be guaranteed. Lessons are to be given in person and on campus. Candidates should be prepared to support students from a variety of backgrounds and experiences and at a variety of levels from beginning to advanced. The Music Department is committed to placing music at the center of the liberal arts experience by integrating musical practice with scholarship. Their curriculum is built around five core ways of knowing music: through performance, creation, analysis, ethnography, and history. They provide pathways for students of any level of experience to begin a musical practice for the first time or to pursue high-level work.

Requirements

  • Robust record of teaching and professional performance experience.
  • Master's degree in a related subject, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment, or a commitment to do so.
  • Required reference and background checks.
