About The Position

The Satellite Ground System Engineer is part of Amentum’s Missile Defense Division and directly supports the Missile Defense Agency (MDA), working with the Missile Defense Space Enterprise Architecture (MDSEA) organization. The role develops and implements solutions for satellite ground system elements supporting advanced sensing capabilities and helps ensure efficient, sustainable, and secure command and control of space-based defense capabilities. The engineer works independently and collaboratively in a mission-critical environment, taking ownership of projects from inception through implementation. The role supports the engineering lifecycle, including requirements management, system architecture and development, implementation planning, testing, and ground system sustainment. It also coordinates with technical and program teams to integrate solutions and meet applicable standards and policies.

Requirements

At least 10 years of general full-time work experience; this requirement may be reduced with completion of advanced education.
At least 5 years of directly related systems engineering experience involving satellite ground systems.
At least 6 months of experience in a management or leadership role.
Fundamental understanding of requirements analysis and management principles.
Proficient understanding of the System Engineering V-Model and engineering lifecycle.
Active DoW Secret security clearance.

Nice To Haves

Bachelor’s degree or higher in a related field, such as Systems Engineering, Computer Science, or Electrical Engineering.
Experience working within the Missile Defense Agency or another Department of Defense organization.
Space operations experience.
Ability to develop and edit Department of Defense Architecture Framework (DoDAF) products or use an equivalent framework.
Ability to decompose complex mission systems logically into manageable components.
Experience developing detailed implementation plans for new solutions and systems.
Experience troubleshooting and applying critical thinking to resolve IT system dependencies, impacts, and sustainability challenges.
Familiarity with Agile development methodologies.
Familiarity with cloud computing technologies, including server and serverless platforms such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, and Red Hat OpenShift.
Experience with SysML and MBSE tools such as Cameo Systems Modeler, IBM Rhapsody, or Sparx Enterprise Architect.
One or more relevant certifications, such as INCOSE ASEP or CompTIA Security+.
Understanding of Linux and Kubernetes environments.
Experience verifying system test cases, executing test plans, or conducting system-level integration and verification testing for satellite ground systems or complex software/hardware systems.

Responsibilities

Develop and design solutions to improve the efficiency, security, and sustainability of ground system elements and mission suites within the MDSEA framework.
Conduct studies and analyses; define requirements; engineer preliminary and detailed ground system architectures; and oversee development for enterprise services, satellite ground systems, operations centers, and supporting facilities.
Support projects throughout the engineering lifecycle, from initiation and requirements management through task execution and ground system sustainment.
Document designs and develop implementation and test plans for sustainment personnel to execute.
Collaborate with system administrators, cybersecurity, DevSecOps, test teams, project managers, software developers, network engineers, and application teams to ensure integration and compliance with relevant standards and policies.
Work with project managers to define tasks and schedules.
Work independently, take initiative, and drive projects to completion with minimal supervision.
