About The Position

This is skilled work in the operation and maintenance of refuse collection trucks including heavy manual labor involved in the collection and disposal of garbage, trash and yard waste. The role involves safely collecting garbage, trash, and yard waste from residences and small businesses on an assigned route, assisting in unloading the truck at the disposal area, and performing F.D.O.T. inspections. The position requires driving and operating a refuse truck, climbing in and out of the truck, and cleaning and maintaining the assigned vehicle and related equipment. Responsibilities also include responding to and solving complaints, making special runs for complaints, and assisting in the maintenance of the wash rack.

Requirements

Minimum of six months experience in heavy manual labor or previous sanitation background required.
Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with an acceptable driving record.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to prepare and interpret bar graphs.
Ability to use common sense understanding in order to carry out detailed written or oral instructions.
Ability to deal with problems involving a few known variables in situations of a routine nature.
Must be able to follow oral and written instructions to complete tasks with a minimum of supervision.
Ability to comprehend, record and complete route reports and work orders.
Ability to communicate clearly and courteously with others in person and on two-way radio.
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Ability to be prompt and regular in attendance to meet customer service demands.

Nice To Haves

Six months experience in driving and operating a refuse vehicle preferred.

Responsibilities

Safely collects garbage, trash and yard waste from residences and small businesses on an assigned route.
Assists in unloading the truck at disposal area as needed.
Safely drives and operates refuse truck performing F.D.O.T. inspection and ensuring vehicle is fueled and equipped with tools needed to complete their assigned route.
Assists in the cleaning and maintenance of assigned vehicle and reports any problems to supervisor.
Climbs into a small compartment behind packer blade to remove refuse.
Accesses platform 5' above ground to complete cleaning of vehicle.
Responds and solves complaints assigned by dispatcher or supervisor.
Makes special runs in attending to garbage, trash or yard waste complaints.
Responsible for the cleaning and maintenance of equipment such as barrels and buggies that are used on a daily basis.
Assists in the maintenance of the wash rack.
Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.
