About The Position

Performs routine manual refuse collection work in the city refuse collection and disposal program. Works under the direct supervision of a refuse collection driver, with work checked in progress and upon completion.

Requirements

Ability to lift and carry heavy loads.
Ability to perform strenuous manual labor.
Ability to understand and follow oral instructions.
Ability to get along with fellow employees and the public.
Combination of training and work experience that demonstrates capability for performing assigned tasks.
Possess a valid Florida driver’s license.
Able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.
Able to physically push or pull 50 pounds independently 800 to 1,000 times per day.
Able to physically lift 50 pounds independently from the ground to waist height 800 to 1,000 times per day.
Able to get up and down from the cab of a commercial motor vehicle 800 to 1,000 times per day.
Able to bend at the waist and knees 800 to 1,000 times per day.
Able to ride on the outside of the truck while servicing residential customers in low-MPH areas.

Responsibilities

Collect refuse on an established waste collection route.
Load papers, trash, and garbage into a packer truck.
Hook cables to dumpsters.
Load trash with a pitch fork.
Operate the compactor on a packer truck.
Spray and wash trucks.
Ride in the truck to the dump site and assist the driver in unloading the truck.
Operate the back blade.
Leave notices of refuse violations.
Perform other duties as assigned.
