About The Position

Labcorp is seeking a Sample Collection Technician to join our dynamic team in Madison, WI! This role is responsible for collecting, documenting, and managing biological samples in support of nonclinical and clinical research studies. The position has a strong focus on blood collection and related sample types, ensuring strict compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Good Laboratory Practices (GLPs), and applicable regulatory agency guidelines. The technician also monitors animal health and welfare in accordance with the Animal Welfare Act and supports facility operations to maintain AAALAC accreditation standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a Life Science discipline (Biology, Wildlife, Pre-veterinary, Zoology, Animal Science, or related Life Science disciplines) OR Associate degree in Laboratory Animal Technology or Veterinary Technology plus 6 months or more of experience in clinical sample collection, clinical support, laboratory animal care, or assisting veterinary or research staff in a regulated laboratory or research environment.
  • Ability to work in a laboratory environment with laboratory animals.
  • Flexibility to work weekends, late-night, and overtime as needed.
  • Comfortable working in environments that follow strict sanitation and animal care protocols.
  • Exceptional customer service.
  • Strong communication skills; both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work independently or in a team environment.
  • Comfortable working under minimal supervision.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, with frequent lifting, prolonged standing, and repetitive hand use throughout the workday.

Nice To Haves

  • 6 months or more of experience as a Study Technician, OR 6 months or more of equivalent experience in a laboratory, research, or animal care setting.
  • Equivalent experience includes performing biological sample collection (e.g., blood, serum, plasma), assisting with study-related procedures, handling research animals, adhering to standard operating procedures (SOPs), and completing required study documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Collect, process, and accurately document blood and other biological samples per study requirements.
  • Read, understand, and follow study protocols, SOPs, and GLP requirements.
  • Perform technical phases of toxicology studies under guidance, including data organization and quality checks.
  • Maintain complete and accurate laboratory records in compliance with GLPs.
  • Assess and record clinical observations, body weights, food consumption, and environmental data.
  • Monitor animal health and promptly report and assist in resolving animal care concerns.
  • Use computer systems and software for data entry, forms, and procedure documentation.
  • Assist with study setup, study management activities, and schedule coordination.
  • Support client visits, study initiations, and debriefings as needed.
  • Identify potential study, protocol, or scheduling issues and escalate appropriately.
  • Adapt techniques and procedures to meet study-specific needs.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
