About The Position

The SALT Tax Manager owns SNIPES’ U.S. sales and use tax function, with responsibility for compliance, audit defense, nexus management, and accurate tax determination across stores, ecommerce, and procurement. The company is treated as a disregarded entity for U.S. federal income tax purposes, so the manager also serves as the day-to-day tax contact for the parent company, providing data, schedules, and analysis to support parent-level income tax provision, compliance, and reporting. The role calls for a broadly trained tax professional with knowledge spanning income, franchise, property, and employment taxes, and specialized expertise in sales and use tax in a multistate retail environment. The manager advises business teams, oversees external tax advisors and service providers, and develops scalable processes, documentation, and staff as the U.S. business grows. The position reports to the Chief Financial Officer and is hybrid in Bensalem, Pennsylvania.

  • At least 7 years of progressive tax experience, primarily focused on multistate sales and use tax, including experience in public accounting (Big Four or comparable national firm) and a corporate tax department.
  • Broad technical grounding in federal and state income and franchise tax, indirect tax, property tax, and employment tax, with demonstrated depth in sales and use tax.
  • Experience supporting pass-through or disregarded entity structures, including delivering data for a parent company’s income tax provision, compliance, and reporting.
  • Hands-on Avalara experience, including AvaTax configuration, tax code and product taxability mapping, returns processing, exemption certificate management, and integration troubleshooting.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage state and local sales and use tax audits from initial notice through resolution, including sampling methodology and assessment negotiation.

  • Experience designing and performing self-audits or reverse audits of tax configurations and transaction data, and working directly with large POS and ecommerce data sets.
  • Experience with a major ERP system such as SAP, Oracle, or NetSuite, and retail POS and ecommerce platforms.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to explain sales and use tax concepts and risks to non-tax stakeholders and executive leadership.
  • Highly organized and deadline-driven, with judgment to manage a high-volume compliance calendar alongside audits and advisory work.

  • Conduct recurring self-audits and reverse audits of sales tax configurations and transaction data, validate taxability determinations, identify overpayments and exposures, pursue refunds, and coordinate remediation with IT and business owners.
  • Monitor economic and physical nexus as the company expands; manage registrations, deregistrations, voluntary disclosure agreements, and exposure and reserve estimates for unregistered jurisdictions.
  • Manage state and local sales and use tax audits from data extraction and sampling through workpapers, information requests, proposed assessment negotiations, and appeals, coordinating with external advisors.
