About The Position

The Sales Specialist, referred to in the description as a Senior Sales Associate, delivers exceptional experiences for pets and pet parents while supporting the success of the Pet Care Center. The role goes beyond day-to-day selling by serving as a mentor, role model, and trusted partner on the sales floor. The associate supports store operations, assists leadership as needed, and helps develop newer associates while delivering knowledgeable, compassionate service rooted in a passion for pets. The position is performed in a Pet Care Center retail environment and involves active engagement on the sales floor. It requires frequent standing and walking, as well as bending, kneeling, reaching, and lifting. The associate must be able to safely lift and move merchandise, supplies, or animals weighing up to 50 pounds. The role includes regular customer assistance and cashiering and point-of-sale transactions, and requires working in proximity to animals and exposure to animal dander, odors, noises, and cleaning chemicals. Flexible availability is needed to support operating hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Requirements

At least 1 year of retail experience.
Strong communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
Ability to multitask and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
Strong problem-solving skills and professionalism in handling customer concerns.
Basic math skills and experience handling cash and transactions.
Ability to safely lift and move merchandise, supplies, or animals weighing up to 50 pounds.
Ability to work in proximity to animals, including exposure to animal dander, odors, noises, and cleaning chemicals.
Flexible availability to support Pet Care Center operating hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Responsibilities

Promote the health, safety, and proper care of animals in accordance with Petco policies and standards.
Share accurate pet care, nutrition, and product knowledge to help customers make informed decisions.
Maintain a safe, clean, welcoming, organized, and well-presented environment for pets, pet parents, and partners.
Greet customers and provide friendly, solution-focused, knowledgeable, and compassionate service.
Demonstrate strong selling behaviors and exceptional customer service as a role model on the sales floor.
Assist customers in selecting products and services that meet their pets’ needs.
Educate customers about promotions, services, and loyalty programs, and support store sales goals.
Process sales, returns, and exchanges accurately and efficiently, including cashiering and point-of-sale transactions.
Support merchandising and inventory activities, including restocking, recovery, presentation, monitoring inventory, and replenishment.
Assist with opening and closing procedures as assigned.
Support store leadership with operational tasks and special projects, and assist with operational needs.
Mentor and train new and junior associates on policies, procedures, best practices, store standards, and service expectations.
Act as a floor leader when needed, supporting workflow and customer experience.
Help resolve customer concerns and escalate issues appropriately, including assisting management with escalated concerns.
Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and safety standards.
Foster a collaborative and inclusive team environment.
