About The Position

The Institute for Computational and Data Sciences (ICDS) at Penn State is seeking a Sales Specialist to join their Technical Support and Sales team. ICDS collaborates with researchers across numerous academic departments and campuses, aiming to foster new collaborations, secure funding, solve computational and data science challenges, build a diverse scholarly community, and provide access to the robust supercomputer 'Roar'. The role contributes to equipping researchers with advanced computing tools and resources. The position reports to the Assistant Director of Innovation and Outreach.

Requirements

  • Experience in professional sales, client services, or account management across varied audiences, including students, faculty, and administrators.
  • Experience serving as a primary client liaison.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities independently.
  • Ability to work with complex computing and storage services.
  • Strong client relationship management.
  • Effective communication with both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Working knowledge of high-performance computing or similar environments.
  • Ability to assess client needs and recommend appropriate solutions.
  • Cross-functional coordination.
  • First-level problem resolution.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Process improvement capability.
  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • 1+ years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience accepted.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as primary point of contact for ICDS sales activities, including new sales, renewals, and storage services.
  • Respond to complex client inquiries across faculty, researchers, administrators, and staff.
  • Assess client needs and recommend appropriate ICDS services and solutions.
  • Prepare and deliver sales proposals and service recommendations.
  • Maintain client relationships and support long-term service engagement.
  • Lead client relationship management activities, including reporting and record maintenance.
  • Act as point of contact for all ICDS sales fulfillment activities.
  • Coordinate with financial, administrative, and technical teams to ensure timely fulfillment.
  • Facilitate new client onboarding, including account setup, access management, and documentation.
  • Lead READ seed credit processes, including Tier 1 requests and support for Tier 2 and 3 requests.
  • Manage fulfillment activities for ICDS seed programs.
  • Serve as point of contact for client business support tickets.
  • Resolve level 1 technical support issues; coordinate escalations as needed.
  • Identify process improvement opportunities to enhance client experience.
  • Support external engagement with industry partners and sponsors.
  • Represent ICDS at Penn State events and outreach activities.
  • Maintain current knowledge of ICDS services and computing resources.
