About The Position

The Sales Specialist (described in the posting as a Senior Sales Associate) delivers knowledgeable, compassionate service to pets and pet parents while supporting the success of the Pet Care Center. Beyond selling, the role serves as a mentor and role model on the sales floor, supports store operations, assists leadership as needed, and helps develop newer associates. The position promotes animal health and safety, shares pet-care and product knowledge, and helps maintain a clean, welcoming, well-stocked store. It is performed in a Pet Care Center retail environment with active sales-floor engagement and requires flexible availability for operating hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Requirements

• At least 1 year of retail experience; specialty retail experience is preferred.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and customer-service skills.
• Ability to multitask and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong problem-solving skills and professionalism in handling customer concerns.
• Basic math skills and experience handling cash and transactions.
• Ability to safely lift and move merchandise, supplies, or animals weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to work in proximity to animals and exposure to animal dander, odors, noises, and cleaning chemicals.
• Flexible availability to support Pet Care Center operating hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Promote the health, safety, and proper care of animals in accordance with Petco policies and standards.
• Share accurate pet-care, nutrition, product, promotion, service, and loyalty-program information with customers.
• Greet customers and provide friendly, solution-focused, knowledgeable, and compassionate service.
• Assist customers in selecting products and services that meet their pets’ needs, and support store sales goals through effective selling behaviors.
• Process sales, returns, and exchanges accurately and efficiently, including cashiering and point-of-sale transactions.
• Maintain store cleanliness, organization, and visual standards; support merchandising, recovery, restocking, inventory monitoring, and replenishment.
• Support a safe and welcoming environment for pets, pet parents, and partners, and comply with company policies, procedures, and safety standards.
• Assist with opening and closing procedures as assigned, operational tasks, and special projects.
• Mentor and train new and junior associates on policies, procedures, service expectations, and best practices.
• Act as a floor leader when needed, support workflow and teamwork, and assist management with operational needs.
• Help resolve customer concerns and escalate issues appropriately.
