About The Position

Empire Merchants North is seeking a high energy, motivated Sales Representative for the Moet Hennessy/Freedom Division in Erie County. This role is responsible for maximizing the sales of supplier brands to the trade and consumer through effective territory planning, selling, merchandising, and communication. The Sales Representative will call on accounts daily, analyze territory and account opportunities, prepare and present professional sales presentations, and interact with supplier representatives. The role requires mandatory attendance at training sessions, staying up-to-date on brand information and pricing, and following sales principles. Responsibilities include obtaining distribution, gaining promotional support, and merchandising for both off-premise and on-premise accounts. The Sales Representative must also work effectively with supplier representatives and company managers, maintain positive relationships, and represent the company and its suppliers professionally. Merchandising duties include installing point-of-sale materials, suggesting shelf resets, ensuring product rotation, conducting tastings, and managing inventory. Record keeping and communication are crucial, requiring proficiency in electronic tools, daily territory updates to management, and timely submission of reports. New accounts require credit applications, distribution level determination, and sales tax certificates. The company reserves the right to add or delete forms and reports as needed. Sales Representatives must adhere to all federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations. Failure to meet job description requirements or sign company forms may result in disciplinary action, up to and including dismissal.

Requirements

  • High energy, motivated individual.
  • Proficiency in all electronic tools e.g., Diver and Liquid, with proper training.
  • Ability to maintain and effectively use the monthly pitch or program book, tasting notes, sell sheets, and information from suppliers.
  • Ability to obtain and submit a signed and notarized credit application from the account at least 72 hours prior to submitting an opening order.
  • Ability to determine with Field Sales Manager the account classification.
  • Ability to obtain levels of distribution for on and/or off premises account per division standards.
  • Ability to obtain sales tax certificate.
  • Must know, understand, and adhere to all federal, state. local laws, rules, and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Call on accounts daily, following an established and efficient route, keeping route sheets up to date, and developing positive customer relations.
  • Analyze the total territory and each account to determine priority selling and merchandising opportunities.
  • Prepare and present professional sales presentations tailored to current supplier programs and customer needs.
  • Interact with ADS’, Supplier Representatives, and Promotional Agency Representatives.
  • Attend Company and/or Supplier sponsored training, including training classes and wine education classes.
  • Keep up to date on company and competitive brand pricing, features, benefits, and programs.
  • Follow the principles of Sales Skills and Fundamentals Training (Prepare, Present Effectively, and Activate your business).
  • Present the portfolio and current programs to increase sales and generate maximum revenue and case volume.
  • Maintain and effectively use the monthly pitch or program book, tasting notes, sell sheets, and supplier information.
  • Obtain appropriate off-premise distribution of supplier brands, types, and sizes, and gain feature price, promotion, and display merchandising support.
  • Obtain appropriate on-premise distribution of supplier brands, types, and sizes, gain wine list presence, execute wines-by-the-glass and features, conduct wait-staff trainings, gain back bar distribution, and proper merchandising of the back bar.
  • Request permanent P.O.S. materials for accounts to ensure brand visibility and account dominance.
  • Work with supplier representatives and company managers for training and advanced selling skills.
  • Represent products, the company, and suppliers in a positive and professional manner.
  • Install point-of-sale material within accounts and coordinate with merchandisers.
  • Suggest shelf/cold box resets that achieve supplier and company standards.
  • Ensure proper rotation of products in accordance with State and Federal law.
  • Organize and conduct in-store consumer wine and spirit tasting(s) on a rotating account basis.
  • Keep current on in-stock and out-of-stock items and inform accounts accordingly.
  • Be proficient in all electronic tools (e.g., Diver and Liquid).
  • Keep management informed daily on all aspects of their territory, including turning in accurate recaps in a timely manner.
  • Submit sales reports and performance goals to salesperson's manager as requested.
  • Collect wine lists, cocktail lists, and cordial lists in all accounts requested by management.
  • Maintain adequate, well-organized inventories of P.O.S., sales tools, supplies, and merchandising materials.
  • Attend and actively participate in sales meetings.
  • Obtain and submit a signed and notarized credit application for all new accounts.
  • Determine account classification with the Field Sales Manager.
  • Obtain levels of distribution for on and/or off premises accounts per division standards.
  • Obtain sales tax certificate for new accounts.
  • Ensure all reports and surveys submitted are accurate and not falsified.
  • Date and sign all Company forms, and add written commentary if disagreeing with any review or evaluation.
  • Know, understand, and adhere to all federal, state, local laws, rules, and regulations.
