About The Position

Unum is seeking rising seniors for a 10-week paid internship program focused on sales and client management. This program offers a potential career path with significant growth opportunities. Interns will be immersed in the company culture, work on rewarding projects assigned by managers and mentors, and culminate their experience with a presentation to key business leaders. The internship provides a comprehensive understanding of the Unum case lifecycle and the role of a Unum Producer, requiring both independent and collaborative work. Focus areas include Prospecting and Quoting, Selling, Enrollment, Onboarding, and Relationship Management.

Requirements

  • Must be enrolled in an accredited college degree program.
  • Preference given to rising seniors and first-year graduate students.
  • Competitive GPA.
  • Demonstrates leadership skills and involvement in extra-curricular activities.
  • Demonstrates a genuine interest in sales and client management.
  • Demonstrates a desire to learn more about the insurance industry.
  • Skilled at analytical and critical thinking.
  • Proficiency in MS Word and Excel software applications.
  • Ability to work independently and be self-directed on project work.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Must be available to work approximately 40 hours per week during regular business hours.

Responsibilities

  • Work for Unum, a leader in the disability-based employee benefits marketplace, in a professional office setting.
  • Engage in weekly focus areas covering the lifecycle of a Unum case to experience and analyze problems from start to finish.
  • Receive guidance and support from assigned mentors and sponsors throughout the internship and beyond.
  • Participate in dedicated support for resume writing and interview preparation.
  • Attend skill development workshops designed to sharpen professional skills.
  • Conduct targeted and guided job shadows with mentors and sales and client management colleagues.
  • Analyze an assigned business case for the Capstone Presentation.
  • Learn about Field and Home Office departmental and corporate functions.
  • Attend weekly information sessions and networking opportunities with the intern cohort.
  • Earn college credits for the internship (requires pre-approval from Faculty/Hiring Manager).
