About The Position

Sales associates represent T & M Hardware & Rental by providing outstanding customer service consistent with company values. They assist customers and maintain a clean, efficient, and inviting sales floor while continually learning about the retail industry and the products sold in the store. The role includes assisting customers in person and by phone, helping them find merchandise, recommending add-on sales, and processing special orders. Sales associates also merchandise and restock products, maintain inventory and signage, assist with loading, follow store policies and safety standards, and support other store staff as needed. The position aims to boost sales through closing sales and promoting the store’s loyalty program and add-on products. Associates are expected to expand their knowledge across store departments, become versatile in helping where needed, and develop product knowledge to make recommendations to management. With sufficient experience, they may mentor new employees on products and retail concepts.

Requirements

Outstanding customer service skills and a professional attitude.
Working knowledge of store products and willingness to continue learning.
Organized self-starter who can think independently and solve problems.
Knowledge of effective sales methods and techniques.
Knowledge of point-of-sale systems for price lookup, special orders, and order entry.
Knowledge of MS Word and PowerPoint.
Strong math, reading, writing, and communication skills.
Ability to lift up to 80 lbs.
Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Responsibilities

Assist customers in person and by phone, answer questions, help them find merchandise, recommend add-on sales, and process special orders.
Maintain a clean, orderly, and inviting sales floor, including housekeeping tasks.
Inform customers about upcoming promotions and new products.
Help load products into customers’ vehicles as needed.
Merchandise products according to planograms and help maintain signage.
Restock shelves as necessary.
Assist with regular inventory counts.
Face and front products throughout the store at the beginning and end of shifts and as time permits during the day.
Help store staff with other tasks as needed.
Watch for shoplifting and other theft and respond according to store policy.
Attend all staff meetings.
Follow store policies and safety standards.
Cut keys for customers.
Close sales and promote the store’s loyalty program and add-on sales to boost overall sales.
Continually expand knowledge of all store departments and become able to help in other areas when needed.
Develop product knowledge and make recommendations about new products and merchandising to management.
After gaining sufficient experience, mentor new employees and help them understand products and retail concepts.
