About The Position
We are seeking a customer oriented Sales Associate to join our hardware store team. Requirements
- Prior experience in a retail sales role is required.
- Experience in a hardware store or home improvement setting is strongly preferred.
- High school diploma or GED preferred but not required.
- Knowledge of hardware products and their various applications, as well as an ability to quickly learn about new products.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to interact effectively with customers and deliver exceptional service.
- Ability to stand or walk for extended periods, lift heavy objects, and perform physically demanding tasks when restocking merchandise or assisting customers with heavy items.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Comfortable using a computerized POS system and other retail software.
- Quick thinking and resourcefulness in addressing customer inquiries and resolving issues.
- Lift and carry items up to 25 pounds. Use a hand truck or other resource to move or carry heavier items.
- Consistent, dependable attendance and punctuality are essential to this role, since scheduled coverage on the sales floor directly affects customer service and team workload.
Responsibilities
- Greet customers with a warm and friendly demeanor, ask about their hardware needs, and offer knowledgeable advice and recommendations to help them find suitable products.
- Develop a thorough understanding of the hardware store's inventory, including tools, building materials, plumbing supplies, electrical products, and other hardware items. Stay updated on new products and industry trends.
- Engage with customers to understand their project needs and suggest additional products or accessories that fit those needs.
- Ensure products are organized and displayed properly on shelves. Restock merchandise as needed and maintain a clean, tidy store environment.
- Process customer transactions using the point of sale (POS) system and handle cash, credit card, and other payment methods accurately.
- Handle returns and exchanges according to store policy, aiming for customer satisfaction while following guidelines.
- Assist in managing inventory levels, conduct periodic stock checks, and notify management when products need to be reordered.
- Address customer inquiries, complaints, and returns promptly and professionally, aiming to resolve issues while adhering to store policies.
- Promote a safe shopping environment by following all safety protocols, including proper use of equipment and handling hazardous materials.
- Work with other sales associates, cashiers, and store management to assist customers and maintain a positive store atmosphere.
- Participate in ongoing product training sessions to build product knowledge and improve sales technique.
