About The Position

The American Cancer Society is seeking a Part-Time Sales Associate for their Discovery Shop. This role supports the daily operations of a retail resale store, focusing on revenue growth and providing an exceptional customer experience. The Sales Associate will assist customers and donors, operate the point-of-sale (POS) system, maintain inventory and displays, help with donation intake, and provide direction to volunteers. This is a highly active, hands-on position in a busy retail environment, requiring team members to be on their feet assisting customers, processing donations, merchandising, and maintaining the sales floor. The ideal candidate is proactive, adaptable, comfortable multitasking, and can work independently. This role is part-time, approximately 18 hours per week, with a schedule of Sunday through Tuesday, requiring Sunday availability. Flexibility may be needed for various store needs. The pay rate is $21.00/hr.

Requirements

High School Diploma or Equivalent
2 years prior retail/service experience.
Excellent communication and customer service skills.
Ability to multitask in a fast-paced retail environment.
Ability to work proactively and independently while supporting the needs of customers, donors, volunteers, and store leadership.
Ability to build positive working relationships with volunteers and provide guidance and support as needed.
Adaptability, coachability, and willingness to learn new processes and adjust to changing store needs.
Strong organizational skills and ability to balance multiple priorities.
Microsoft Office Suite operational ability (Word, Teams, Excel, Outlook).
Ability to learn and utilize retail software such as Point of Sale and reporting tools.
Ability to consistently meet the current Sunday through Tuesday scheduling need and provide additional flexibility when possible.
Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.
Use of hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; balance; bend; talk or hear.

Nice To Haves

Some college, including basic courses in business, mathematics, and economics is a plus.
Some leadership experience a plus (i.e. key holder, lead or above.)
Customer service, hospitality, nonprofit, volunteer-support, or other fast-paced service experience may provide relevant transferable skills for this role.
Valid driver’s license not required but is a plus.
As required by government agencies for those working with the public.

Responsibilities

Provide support for daily store operations, including cleaning and processing merchandise, setting up visually appealing displays, restocking shelves, assisting at the register, maintaining organized sales floors and fitting rooms, following opening/closing procedures, and performing routine cleaning tasks to ensure a welcoming shopping environment.
In the absence of management, responsible for complete store oversight.
Provide comprehensive donor support by receiving donations, assisting with unloading items from donor vehicles, placing donations in designated areas, issuing donation receipts, and accurately processing each donation in accordance with organizational procedures.
Deliver exceptional customer service by providing welcome greetings, assisting with floor navigation, facilitating merchandise sales, ensuring accurate point-of-sale transactions, and offering carry-out support to customers' vehicles when needed.
Support the execution of strategic initiatives, Discovery Rewards (loyalty) program, promotional events, and budgeting guidelines aimed at achieving and surpassing annual Revenue and Net Income Goals.
Support the store manager in creating social media content and other marketing campaigns assigned.
Communicate to customers and donors the mission of the American Cancer Society, toll-free number, and provide information about its direct services to the community.
