About The Position
The Sales Associate serves as a Customer Service Associate in the Building Materials department, welcoming customers and helping them find products and services for home improvement projects. The role involves answering questions, assisting with product selection and merchandise handling, maintaining stocked shelves, and ensuring customer orders and deliveries are processed accurately and on time. Associates may guide customers through shopping or checkout, prepare merchandise to meet customer needs, and train across other store areas. Duties may include cutting and bundling wood or drywall and other department-specific merchandise preparation. The position may involve occasional travel to meetings, training, or neighboring stores and work in varying indoor and outdoor conditions.
Requirements
- At least 6 months of experience using a computer, including inputting, accessing, modifying, or outputting information.
- At least 6 months of experience using common retail technology, such as smartphones and tablets.
- Ability to read, write, and perform basic arithmetic, including addition and subtraction.
- Ability to perform duties that may require prolonged standing, sitting, and other activities necessary for the job.
- Ability to lift at least 25 pounds unassisted, or more than 25 pounds with or without an accommodation.
Nice To Haves
- At least 6 months of retail and/or customer service experience.
- Bilingual skills.
- Certification in a trade related to the department, such as hardware, kitchen, plumbing, electrical, lawn and garden, or lumber/building materials.
Responsibilities
- Welcome customers, answer questions, and provide friendly, professional customer service.
- Help customers locate and handle merchandise.
- Down stock merchandise by identifying empty shelf areas and replenishing supplies.
- Process orders and deliveries accurately so customers receive merchandise as expected and on time.
- Cross-functionally train in other store areas to support customer service.
- Prepare department merchandise to meet customer needs, such as cutting and bundling wood or cutting drywall.
- Guide customers through shopping or checkout.
- Complete other duties as assigned.
