About The Position
As a Customer Service Associate in Building Materials, you provide friendly, professional service and help customers find products and services for home improvement projects. You welcome customers, answer questions, assist with product selection and merchandise handling, and help ensure customer needs are met. Duties may include organizing and replenishing merchandise, processing orders and deliveries, preparing department merchandise such as cutting and bundling wood or cutting drywall, and guiding customers through shopping or checkout. Associates may cross-train in other store areas and perform other assigned duties. The role may involve occasional travel to meetings, training, or neighboring stores, and work indoors or outdoors in varying weather and noise conditions.
Requirements
- At least 6 months of experience using a computer, including inputting, accessing, modifying, or outputting information.
- At least 6 months of experience using common retail technology, such as smartphones and tablets.
- Ability to read, write, and perform basic arithmetic, including addition and subtraction.
- Ability to perform duties that may require prolonged standing, sitting, and other activities necessary for the job.
- Ability to lift 25 pounds unassisted, or more than 25 pounds with or without an accommodation.
- Follow lifting guidelines that limit single lifts to 75 pounds; team lifts are used minimally starting at 75 pounds or when needed.
- Use powered equipment as required, with proper training or assistance from a trained coworker.
Nice To Haves
- At least 6 months of retail and/or customer service experience.
- Bilingual skills.
- Certification in a trade related to the department, such as hardware, kitchen, plumbing, electrical, lawn and garden, or lumber/building materials.
- Military or veteran experience is encouraged.
Responsibilities
- Welcome customers, answer questions, and deliver friendly and professional customer service.
- Assist customers with locating and handling merchandise.
- Down stock merchandise by identifying empty shelf areas and replenishing supplies.
- Process orders and deliveries accurately so customers receive merchandise as expected and on time.
- Cross-functionally train in other areas of the store to help deliver customer service.
- Prepare merchandise based on customer needs, including cutting and bundling wood or cutting drywall.
- Guide customers through shopping or checkout.
- Complete other duties as assigned.
