About The Position

The Safety Training Specialist Gas will organize, prepare, and conduct safety and field training programs. This includes demonstrations of skills required in specific trades and lectures on theory, practices, methods, processes, safety, and terminology. The role involves conducting training sessions, investigating accidents, developing teaching aids, evaluating trainees, and ensuring compliance with safety standards.

Requirements

  • A valid driver's license from state of residence is required.
  • Associate's degree and 4 years of experience in Gas Distribution Construction in joint trench work, plastic fusion, gas pipeline construction, and high/low pressure gas systems, gas meter repair, gas measurements and pressure regulations OR 8 years of experience as listed above with High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • Must successfully complete NIMS Training within 1 year of entering job.
  • Must be qualified in Operator Qualification covered tasks for gas operations and construction.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's degree in general technology, Industrial Technology, Vocational Technical Education, Engineering Technology, Occupational Safety OR equivalent preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct and/or chair generalized and specified training sessions, seminars, meetings, classes and presentations such as field training functions covering on-the-job/new training, apprentice programs, refresher training and promotional development and safety activities such as defensive driving, first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
  • Record and maintain related class and field records; and operator qualification manuals/records.
  • Investigate/review industrial and vehicular accidents/injuries and accident reports to classify/determine cause and preventative measures, and chair investigation committee.
  • Select and develop teaching aids such as handbooks, models, audiovisual aids, safety manuals, material reports, construction standards and other necessary training aids.
  • Evaluate trainees to measure their learning progress and the effectiveness of training presentations; and administer performance testing for hiring and promotion; and administer operator qualification testing.
  • Evaluate/interpret federal, state and local safety standards and regulations to ensure Division conformance.
  • Recommend changes in Division construction standards, methods, equipment, vehicles, machines, etc. to ensure proper safety and feasibility; and recommend changes to operator qualification standards and methods.
  • Provide advice/information and instructions to Division personnel, various parties/contractors concerning safety/training related matters; serve as witness in court litigations and hearings.
  • Stay abreast of latest developments in operator qualification, industrial safety and the latest innovations in specific discipline.
  • Operate Division vehicle and various visual/audio instructional aids.
  • Perform other duties as directed.
