About The Position

The Safety Training Specialist Gas will organize, prepare, and conduct safety and field training programs. This role involves demonstrations of skills required in specific trades and lectures on theory, practices, methods, processes, safety, and terminology. The specialist will also investigate accidents, develop training materials, evaluate trainee progress, and ensure compliance with safety regulations.

Requirements

  • A valid driver's license from the state of residence is required.
  • Associate's degree and 4 years of experience in Gas Distribution Construction in joint trench work, plastic fusion, gas pipeline construction, and high/low pressure gas systems, gas meter repair, gas measurements and pressure regulations.
  • OR 8 years of experience as listed above with a High School Diploma or GED.
  • Must successfully complete NIMS Training within 1 year of entering the job.
  • Must be qualified in Operator Qualification covered tasks for gas operations and construction.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's degree in general technology, Industrial Technology, Vocational Technical Education, Engineering Technology, Occupational Safety OR equivalent preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct and/or chair generalized and specified training sessions, seminars, meetings, classes, and presentations covering field training functions, on-the-job/new training, apprentice programs, refresher training, promotional development, and safety activities (e.g., defensive driving, first aid, CPR).
  • Record and maintain related class and field records, as well as operator qualification manuals/records.
  • Investigate and review industrial and vehicular accidents/injuries and accident reports to determine cause and preventative measures.
  • Chair accident investigation committees.
  • Select and develop teaching aids such as handbooks, models, audiovisual aids, safety manuals, material reports, and construction standards.
  • Evaluate trainees to measure learning progress and the effectiveness of training presentations.
  • Administer performance testing for hiring and promotion.
  • Administer operator qualification testing.
  • Evaluate and interpret federal, state, and local safety standards and regulations to ensure Division conformance.
  • Recommend changes in Division construction standards, methods, equipment, vehicles, and machines to ensure proper safety and feasibility.
  • Recommend changes to operator qualification standards and methods.
  • Provide advice, information, and instructions to Division personnel and various parties/contractors concerning safety/training related matters.
  • Serve as a witness in court litigations and hearings.
  • Stay abreast of the latest developments in operator qualification, industrial safety, and innovations in specific disciplines.
  • Operate a Division vehicle and various visual/audio instructional aids.
  • Perform other duties as directed.
