About The Position

Mountains Behavioral Health is seeking a full-time Safety Specialist to promote and maintain a safe environment for patients, families, and staff. This role involves conducting proactive safety rounds, assisting clinical staff with patients exhibiting aggressive behaviors using de-escalation techniques, and partnering with Public Safety and Safety Technicians to ensure a secure treatment environment. The Safety Specialist will also initiate debriefing sessions after seclusion and restraint incidents and document patient safety encounters.

Requirements

High school graduate or equivalent.
2 years of relevant experience and skill in verbal and physical de-escalation in an acute psychiatric setting.
Previous work experience in health care.
Psychiatric work experience.
Training in de-escalation and aggression management in healthcare settings.
BLS required or attained within 1 month of hire.

Responsibilities

Promote and maintain a safe environment for patients, families, and staff.
Conduct proactive and continuous safety rounding in patient care areas.
Identify and communicate potential safety risks to clinical staff.
Assist clinical staff with interventions for patients demonstrating escalated, threatening, or aggressive behaviors.
Utilize evidenced-based de-escalation and aggression management techniques.
Assist in physical restraint techniques when necessary, adhering to policies and training.
Initiate debriefing sessions and provide feedback after seclusion and restraint situations or crises.
Partner with Public Safety and Safety Technicians to monitor and maintain a safe treatment environment.
Intervene during escalating situations to reduce the likelihood of physical altercations.
Assess for changes in patient behaviors and provide early intervention.
Document patient/family safety encounters in the medical record.
