About The Position

Spee Dee Delivery is seeking a Safety Specialist to provide administrative support to the health and safety department. This role involves championing a safety-first culture, managing incident reports, ensuring regulatory compliance, and coordinating safety training and projects. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication and organizational skills, a thorough understanding of OSHA and DOT/FMCSA regulations, and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

Requirements

  • At least 18 years of age
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines
  • Thorough understanding of applicable federal, state, local, and company policies, including Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards
  • Proficient in DOT and FMCSA procedures and standards
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in transportation preferred
  • Associate's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Health and Safety, or related field preferred
  • 1+ year of experience in health and safety preferred

Responsibilities

  • Champion a safety-first culture
  • Accept inbound calls regarding incidents, gather pertinent information, and notify relevant department
  • Record and follow up on incident reports, and obtain police reports for incident investigations
  • Work with the HR Department collecting any previous incidents information
  • Collect, analyze, and report data to Federal Government agencies to prove department is compliant with federal, state, and local laws, guidelines, and ordinances
  • Ensure all needed permits and registrations are current
  • Coordinate licensing and registration of company vehicles
  • Respond to questions on hazardous materials to ensure proper shipping
  • Daily inspections of loading area for packages missing hazmat paperwork and/or unsafe working conditions
  • Audit and identify discrepancies in electronic driver logs
  • Assist with the coordination of projects of the department, including those related to emergency preparedness, accident prevention, general safety, and risk management
  • Review current safety training and recommend revisions, improvements, and updates
  • Monitor and save telematic data and communicate findings to the Director of Safety
  • Provide real-time guidance, mentoring and corrective coaching to drivers on safety behaviors, regulatory compliance and company policies
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
