About The Position

Reporting to the System Support Office (SSO) Occupational Safety and Health manager, responsible for completing assigned job tasks that contribute towards the planning, organizing, and compliance for HHC Environment of Care (EOC) program. This program includes employee/occupational safety, life (fire) safety and hazardous materials and waste.

Requirements

  • Bachelor Degree in EH&S, Environmental Science or equivalent
  • 3-5 Years of entry level EH&S or environmental consulting experience
  • Knowledge of occupational safety, fire protection codes, inspections and survey techniques required.
  • Knowledge of occupational safety programs such as but not limited to, respiratory protection, confined spaces, power tools, hearing conservation and ladder safety and lock out tag out.
  • Ability to travel within the State of Connecticut with personal car, utilize the Hartford Healthcare Leadership Behavior model for communication and team work.
  • Work with a diverse group of employees and managers, those clinical and non-clinical in medical and industrial settings.
  • Knowledge of OSHA, Joint Commission, EPA/RCRA, CTDEEP, DOT, and NFPA regulations.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred: RCRA, DOT, OSHA 10/30, HAZWOPER
  • Previous experience working in health care preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Functions as the lead administrator for the Safety Data Sheet program for Hartford Healthcare.
  • Conduct chemical inventories.
  • Performs risk assessments and other assigned tasks in the fields of life safety, occupational safety and hazardous materials and waste, traveling to all HHC hospitals and entities as needed.
  • Collects data and populates dashboards to share data and ensure compliance for programs assigned. Regularly audit and assist in the maintenance of OSHA injury logs.
  • Conducts Life Safety fire drills and is involved in the objective drill assessments and critiques.
  • Conducts accident investigation and is involved in accident assessment and critiques.
  • Chairs or participates in committees or subcommittees as assigned such as Employee Safety committee and EOC.
  • Conducts ergonomic assessments for various work environments and organizes equipment deliveries and proper equipment selections.
  • Participates in special environmental and exposure monitoring tasks using a variety of instruments to determine potentially unsafe exposures, participates in studies of unsafe work conditions with the appropriate supervisors and participates in surveys of hazardous working conditions for the employees.
  • Conduct personal protection equipment (PPE) assessment
  • Participate in EOC Rounds or Ligature Rounding as assigned
  • Reconcile manifest and organize other paperwork related to the DOT, Resource Conservation and Recovery Act and hazardous waste regulations.
  • Perform other related duties as required
