About The Position

The Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist position exists to ensure safe, compliant, environmentally responsible, and incident‑free operations at the Rain Carbon Canada facility. The role supports the company’s global Safety, Health & Environmental (SH&E) principles by protecting employees, contractors, visitors, surrounding communities, and the environment. This position plays a key role in maintaining regulatory compliance, reducing occupational and environmental risks, promoting sustainable industrial practices, and fostering a strong safety and environmental culture based on employee engagement and continuous improvement. The EHS Specialist actively supports Rain Carbon’s site and global initiatives, including Quest for Zero and Safety First, while also contributing to environmental stewardship, pollution prevention, and responsible resource management.

Requirements

  • Minimum: Engineering degree or related technical field (Environmental, Chemical, Mechanical, or similar).
  • 5–10 years of progressive experience in Environment, Health & Safety roles.
  • Experience within manufacturing, industrial, engineering, or energy‑intensive operations preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of EHS regulations and environmental compliance requirements.
  • Experience with occupational hygiene, risk assessment, and industrial process safety.
  • Understanding water management, waste management, and pollution control technologies.
  • Strong communication, analytical, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence, engage employees, and provide technical guidance.
  • Proven organizational and continuous improvement mindset.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred: Bachelor’s degree with specialization in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, or Occupational Health & Safety; relevant professional certification/designation.
  • Exposure to environmental management systems, waste management, and pollution control strongly preferred.
  • SAP experience is considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a strong on‑site presence through routine inspections, safety and environmental walkthroughs, and employee engagement.
  • Serve as an active member of the Joint Health & Safety Committee.
  • Support and promote Rain Carbon’s global SH&E policies, safety culture initiatives, and environmental management objectives.
  • Assist in planning, designing, and supervising industrial components and processes to ensure safety, environmental compliance, and operational efficiency.
  • Support environmental compliance programs related to air emissions, water quality, wastewater, solid and hazardous waste management.
  • Monitor site environmental performance and assist in implementing corrective and preventive actions.
  • Support initiatives that help develop and integrate cleaner technologies, pollution control systems, and contamination mitigation practices.
  • Contribute to projects aimed at renewable energy utilization, energy efficiency, waste minimization, and maximizing the reuse of existing materials.
  • Assist in environmental impact assessments related to process changes or capital projects.
  • Manage the annual Occupational Hygiene Program, including exposure monitoring, assessments, and implementation of corrective measures.
  • Conduct hazard identification, risk assessments, and participate in HAZOP and Job Safety Analyses (JSA).
  • Support risk mitigation programs aligned with Rain Carbon’s Life‑Saving Rules and environmental protection standards.
  • Develop, revise, and maintain site‑specific safety, health, and environmental procedures and management systems.
  • Prepare and communicate monthly EHS performance reports, including safety metrics, environmental data, and trends.
  • Participate in incident and environmental event investigations; ensure corrective actions are implemented and tracked to completion.
  • Maintain and update site emergency response, spill response, and evacuation plans.
  • Coordinate with external agencies, including fire departments and environmental authorities.
  • Ensure emergency response drills and spill simulations are conducted, evaluated, and documented.
  • Ensure employees and contractors receive required EHS training in line with regulatory and corporate expectations.
  • Develop and deliver training related to workplace safety, environmental awareness, waste handling, and spill prevention.
  • Support onboarding and safety/environmental indoctrination programs.
  • Support compliance with applicable environmental, health, and safety legislation and corporate management system requirements.
  • Prepare for and participate in regulatory inspections and audits (e.g., Ministry of Labor, environmental authorities).
  • Monitor regulatory developments, standards, and industry best practices related to EHS and sustainability.
  • Act as a technical resource to management and employees on EHS, environmental protection, and sustainable process design.
  • Provide guidance on how EHS and environmental considerations influence operational planning and engineering decisions.
  • Maintain accurate records, permits, plans, and documentation required for audits and regulatory compliance.
