About The Position

Metrolinx is connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Metrolinx operates GO Transit and UP Express, as well as the PRESTO fare payment system. We are also building new and improved rapid transit, including GO Expansion, Light Rail Transit routes, and major expansions to Toronto’s subway system, to get people where they need to go, better, faster and easier. This role is an in-office position based at our 20 Bay Street location. Our team is highly collaborative, and much of our work benefits from in-person co-creation, relationship-building, and hands-on partnership with leaders across the organization. Our System Risk & Reliability team is seeking a Safety Risk Analyst to support the organization in the development and maintenance of safety risk models for various asset types, tracks the performance of safety metrics over time, and maintains a record of interventions and their associated outcomes for each safety risk. Over time, the role contributes to the development of a register of actions most likely to reduce, prevent, or mitigate specific safety risks or categories of safety events.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Process Improvement, Safety or a related discipline – or a combination of education, training and experience deemed equivalent.
  • Demonstrated years’ experience as an Analyst, preferably in the transport or construction industry and / or the public sector
  • Effective oral communication, presentation and consultation skills to provide expertise/advice to colleagues and management.
  • Effective written communication skills to provide internal and external reports, briefings and memoranda.
  • A valid Ontario Class “G” drivers’ license and ability to obtain a GO Transit Operator’s Permit may be required for certain business units.
  • Experience with computerized quantitative and analytical tools (e.g. data modeling, workflows, and business process analysis) and with MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Visio, PowerPoint, Project, etc.)

Nice To Haves

  • Experience producing data visualizations with Power BI, Tableau or similar products an asset, as are experience with R, Python, SAS, JMP or other statistical analysis tools.
  • Experience successfully deploying technology solutions in the transport or construction industry is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Develop new safety risk models and enhance existing models across various asset types.
  • Develop safety risk and performance reports on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.
  • Analyze safety data to categorize, estimate, and prioritize the safety risks which can affect an operational program, including safety risks identified during an incident investigation.
  • Conduct and/or guide the conduct of quantitative and qualitative analysis of safety risks within operational programs in order to identify high priority safety risks.
  • Proposes improvements to automate safety functions and make effective use of technology to improve the data analysis process.
  • Assists the business to prepare safety benefit cases, understand scope limitations, and manage expectations during project implementation.
  • Collaborates with diverse stakeholders to gather qualitative and quantitative data needed for solid decision-making.
  • Identifies opportunities for new technology/automation or streamlining business processes and workflows.
  • Provides cost benefit analysis for different safety mitigation solutions.
