The Safety Representative works to minimize accidents and injuries by eliminating hazardous conditions and reducing unsafe actions. This role involves maintaining compliance with regulations, managing MSDS sheets, issuing permits (hot work, confined space), and addressing regulatory issues. The representative is responsible for health, safety, and security equipment, supervising training programs for employees and contractors, and acting as a Contract Administrator for security personnel. They maintain close contact with assigned areas to resolve safety-sensitive issues and are expected to develop technical skills and certifications in relevant safety and/or DOT compliance areas. Specific duties may include coordinating emergency response teams, conducting annual safety and fire inspections, developing and implementing facility health, safety, and security policies, providing consultation on safety and security matters, maintaining OSHA and/or DOT records, and offering general safety support. The role also involves conducting safety training, assisting management with training needs, overseeing compliance with policies and procedures, and developing new policies for OSHA/DOT compliance. Additionally, the Safety Representative assists field management with loss control efforts, including hazard assessment, compliance assessments, and establishing behavioral safety systems, and provides safety coverage for special projects and assignments from their supervisor.
