About The Position

FSM Group, LLC, an aviation fuel management company with operations across North America, has an immediate opening for a Safety Manager at our Boston airport location. The Safety Manager oversees all health, safety, environmental, and training programs for site personnel. Assisting the local management and Corporate HSE, this role ensures regulatory compliance, drives safety metrics, and leads incident investigations within an aviation environment. This position requires physical operational presence, including on-call availability.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Possess and maintain a valid U.S. driver’s license with an acceptable motor vehicle record in accordance with company standards
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
  • Ability to maintain reliable transportation to and from the assigned work location
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime as operational needs require
  • Ability to maintain regular and reliable attendance
  • Ability to successfully complete a pre-employment drug screening and applicable background checks, including federal fingerprinting, in accordance with regulatory requirements
  • Ability to access all areas of the airport necessary to perform job duties, including secured areas, in compliance with airport and federal regulations
  • Ability to obtain and maintain any required government security clearance; employment is contingent upon successful completion of all applicable background checks and clearance requirements as determined by the contracting agency
  • Education, training, or professional experience in health and safety, environmental compliance, occupational safety, or a related field
  • Previous experience in a safety, health, environmental, training, or compliance leadership role
  • A minimum of three years of progressively responsible experience in health and safety, HSE, environmental compliance, or a related field
  • Working knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local health, safety, and environmental regulations and compliance requirements
  • Knowledge and practical experience with Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC), Facility Response Plan (FRP), Incident Command/Contingency Planning (ICP), Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP), and related environmental compliance programs
  • Education, training, or experience in Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA), incident investigation, corrective action, and incident reporting
  • Experience coordinating and managing workers' compensation claims, including related documentation and follow-up
  • Experience developing, coordinating, delivering, or evaluating workplace safety and regulatory training programs
  • Ability to train, coach, and motivate team members, and to represent the organization professionally when interacting with customers and airport stakeholders
  • Knowledge of industry standards, regulatory requirements, and operational best practices related to fuel operations
  • Proven ability to direct, guide, and develop team members in a safety-focused operational environment
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills and the ability to address routine operational challenges
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, maintenance guidelines, and procedural manuals
  • Ability to effectively communicate in English as required to perform job duties and support safe operations in the airport environment, including during emergencies or situations requiring a shared language for safety
  • Ability to interpret and carry out instructions provided in written, verbal, or diagram form
  • Proficiency with computer systems and common workplace software applications, including Microsoft Office applications, data entry and operational reporting systems
  • Ability to ensure company standards are applied consistently while fostering a respectful and productive work environment
  • Ability to climb up and down stairs and ladders with 50+ steps and work at heights of 50 feet or more, including high, precarious places
  • Ability to get in and out of vehicles of varying sizes and heights
  • Ability to drive and operate vehicles and equipment of various sizes, including automated lifts up to 26 feet
  • Frequently lift and carry up to 30 pounds overhead
  • Occasionally lift up to 70 pounds to waist level
  • Ability to shovel materials such as snow, sand, dirt, gravel, or rocks as needed
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, squat, kneel, crawl, twist, climb, and balance for extended periods of time
  • Perform repetitive physical movements, including bending at the waist and knees, and sustaining awkward or physically demanding positions
  • Capable of climbing and standing on step ladders while performing overhead work, such as connecting fueling hoses
  • Use hands and fingers to handle, feel, grip, and operate tools, equipment, and controls
  • Hear and respond to verbal instructions, environmental sounds, and audible alarms
  • Maintain the following vision capabilities: Close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less), Distance vision (clear vision at 20 feet or more), Color vision (identify and distinguish between colors), Peripheral vision (see up/down and side-to-side while focused on a central point), Depth perception (assess distance and spatial relationships), Ability to adjust focus (sharpen vision at various distances)
  • Work outdoors in all weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, snow, and wind
  • Tolerate frequent exposure to moderate to high noise levels (with use of appropriate hearing protection)
  • Tolerate frequent exposure to fumes, airborne particles, and hazardous substances, materials, or waste
  • Work near or around moving mechanical parts, high-voltage equipment, and hydraulic and pneumatic systems operating under high pressure

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in aviation, fuel operations, transportation, industrial operations, or a closely related field preferred
  • Professional certification in occupational health and safety, environmental management, or a related discipline preferred

Responsibilities

  • Partner with station leadership to administer and maintain workplace safety, training, and environmental compliance programs
  • Coordinate with Corporate HSE to maintain local compliance with company standards and applicable regulatory requirements
  • Coordinate the activities of safety and training coordinators, as applicable, including work assignments, training initiatives, and development activities
  • Provide guidance to operational management regarding workplace safety, environmental compliance, training requirements, and related workplace practices
  • Develop, maintain, and review safety and compliance reports and metrics to identify trends, opportunities for improvement, and potential gaps
  • Maintain OSHA records and reporting logs in accordance with applicable requirements
  • Identify training needs and coordinate or conduct proactive safety and compliance training
  • Participate or coordinate investigations involving workplace incidents, injuries, and near misses, including documentation and submission of required reports
  • Track corrective actions and follow-up activities through completion
  • Establish and maintain professional working relationships with employees, management, internal departments, regulatory agencies, and external business partners
  • Participate in internal and external audits, inspections, and compliance reviews
  • Maintain knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local safety, environmental, and workplace compliance requirements
  • Remain current on regulatory developments, workplace hazards, hazardous materials requirements, and applicable company policies and procedures
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support business and operational needs
