We are seeking an experienced Safety Director to lead and continuously improve our company-wide safety culture, programs, and performance across multiple construction projects and operational locations. This leadership role is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing safety strategies that protect our people, support operational excellence, and ensure compliance with all applicable regulations and industry best practices. Job Summary The Safety Manager is responsible for leading and advancing Bauer Design Build's safety strategy, programs, and culture across all company operations and construction projects. This role provides leadership, oversight, and accountability for safety compliance, risk management, training, incident prevention, and continuous improvement initiatives. The Safety Manager partners with field teams, trade partners, clients, and company leadership to create and maintain a proactive safety culture where every employee returns home safely each day. Through strong leadership, education, and operational support, this position ensures compliance with regulatory requirements while driving safety excellence and protecting our people, projects, and reputation.

Requirements

  • OSHA-30 training is required.
  • A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in construction safety management is preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge of OSHA stands and experience managing large-scale construction safety programs is required.

  • Ability to work on several projects simultaneously.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • BS Degree in safety management, occupational health, or related field is preferred.
  • OSHA instructor certification is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide onsite checks of company procedures to confirm standards are met across all company markets.
  • Maintain accurate records, including OSHA 300 logs, incident reports, and training completion records.
  • Lead investigations into accidents, injuries, and near misses to determine root causes and implement corrective actions.
  • Distribute and track OSHA and insurance consultations.
  • Documents and distributes corrective action requests to vendors as required.
  • Manages project/owner specific safety documents as required.
  • Site safety inspection to document any hazards present that affect staff, vendors, and the public.
  • Report on safety performance, trends, and projected needs to management and other stakeholders.
  • Establish emergency response project specific plans, including fire prevention, disaster plans, medical response plans, and evacuation procedures.
  • Leadership and influence must be strong to lead a team, influence management, and motivate workers and trade partners to prioritize safety.
  • Develop, implement, and update safety policies, procedures, and programs to create a safety-first culture.
  • Update and track yearly safety manual updates.
  • Assist in bidding procedures to account for proper safety budgets within project estimates.
  • Manage and update jobsite and office safety posters and information.
  • Develop and manage safety program budgets and report to management.
  • Ability to manage safety across multiple project sites with varying conditions, while adapting protocols to each unique environment.
  • Ensure all construction projects and company operations comply with federal, state, and local safety regulations (e.g., OSHA) and industry best practices.
  • Manage conflict firm but fair and with a sense of urgency.
  • Develop and deliver safety training for all employees, including new hire orientations and ongoing certification training.
  • Manage and organize the safety committee to deliver results and company objectives.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to project teams and field staff regarding specific site hazards and safe operating procedures.
  • Develop and manage the claims process, including workers compensation, insurance, and other liability policies.
  • Manage documentation and reporting of incidents for regulatory agencies, insurance providers, and internal analysis.
  • Clearly communicate with clients regarding safety issues or procedures that could affect their operations.
  • Work and communicate with senior management to align safety goals with broader operational strategies.
  • Participate in internal and external meetings to communicate, as necessary.
  • Communicate with subcontractors to ensure they adhere to company and project policies.
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively convey safety information, training, and policy changes to diverse audiences.
  • Plan and implement safety training programs for all employees, from new hires to management.
  • Facilitate training and maintain records for certifications such as CPR, first aid, and specific equipment operation.
  • Function as the primary point of contact for external regulatory agencies, such as OSHA, during inspections and audits.
  • Stay current with changes in safety regulations and construction industry best practices.
  • This job requires safety oversight and control of job sites if there is imminent danger.
