About The Position

The Site Health & Safety Manager provides health, safety (and where applicable, Process Safety Management) oversight, guidance, competency, and leadership, as well as ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and Darling Corporate Standards at the site level. Lead, monitor, audit, and provide consulting for maintaining a proactive site specific program to achieve site health and safety goals and objectives.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of safety management experience and a Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety or related discipline, OR in lieu of degree, must have a minimum of 10+ years' Occupational Health and Safety specific experience required in a manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of applicable federal/state health and safety regulations is required.
  • Acts with integrity and can critically make decisions, prioritizes effectively, is reliable, and values serving others.
  • Ability to partner and provide strong influence to site leadership to support injury and incident reduction and regulatory compliance.
  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills; must work well in teams and be able to develop relationships with various levels of management.
  • Highly organized; superior time management skills.
  • Proven ability to multi-task, complete projects on time and on budget.
  • Technical competence, experience and demonstrated knowledge in high hazard environments.
  • Exceptional communication skills both written and oral.
  • Microsoft Office knowledge and skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Strong data management and analytical skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience developing and/or supporting delivery of Safety Management Systems, i.e. ISO 45001, OHSAS 18001, ANSI Z10.
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) and/or other related technical certifications.
  • Process Safety Management (PSM) experience.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate and provide guidance and expertise for the development of a world class safety culture at site(s).
  • Build a culture that integrates safety with daily operations; reduce frequency and severity of injuries; reduce costs in order to develop a more productive, effective and safe workforce in compliance with all applicable standards and regulations.
  • With support from Corporate Safety and Operations Leadership, ensure all site health and safety processes are effectively established and regularly reviewed.
  • Serve as resource to management during implementation and execution of standard safety programs.
  • Implementation of site occupational health programs including but not limited to: Hazardous Energy Control (Lockout/Tagout/Tryout), Confined Space Entry, Machine Safety/Guarding, Emergency Preparedness, Powered Industrial Vehicles, Fall Protection & Prevention, Ergonomics, Electrical Safety, and Fleet/Driver Safety.
  • Interact with field workforce on a daily basis, building relationships and providing safety expertise and coaching; 70%+ of the time is expected to be on the site floor.
  • Conduct inspections and audits in site to detect existing or potential hazards and determine corrective or preventative measures.
  • Lead the incident investigation process ensuring root cause analysis identified and preventative/corrective actions documented and effectively completed to prevent incident/injury recurrence.
  • Determine and direct necessary safety and compliance training for all individuals to assure compliance with company and regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor safety trends/data and provide appropriate feedback and solutions to leadership to drive continual improvement.
  • Direct safety committee/team, providing coaching and guidance to ensure the site is aligned with federal OSHA guidelines, corporate safety strategy, and other regulatory guidelines.
  • Collaborate across departments, shifts, and business units to ensure consistent application of programs.
