About The Position

The LACCD Safety Manager will be responsible for overseeing safety protocols and compliance across multiple construction projects throughout Los Angeles County. This is a long-term, direct hire, on-site position requiring the candidate to be located in Southern California. The role involves managing field construction teams, ensuring adherence to safety regulations, and reporting on safety incidents. The position requires extensive experience in commercial construction, particularly on educational projects, and familiarity with hazardous material handling and OCIP programs.

Requirements

Authorization to work lawfully in the US without sponsorship from Simplex.
Must be located in Southern California.
10 years' of commercial construction experience in the US with a General Contractor.
5 years' experience in California with a Contractor or major subcontractor.
2 years' experience in construction of educational projects in a campus environment.
Strong experience managing field construction teams on multiple projects.
Experience on demolition, renovation, and new construction building projects.
Experience working on OCIP programs.
Hold a valid Safety Management Specialist (SMS) certificate or Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) issued by the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP) or Certified Safety Manager Construction (CSMC) certificate issued by the National Association of Safety Professionals (NASP).
Current First Aid/CPR/AED Certification.
Experience on modernization/renovation projects involving abatement, remediation of hazardous materials, hazardous material waste removal and handling, such as asbestos and lead based paint.
Strong experience working senior management and field teams on large building programs across multiple sites and locations.
Experience participating in scheduled construction Meetings with Contractors and Project Managers.
Strong experience in safety incident reporting and daily construction reporting for multiple projects.
Ability to effectively communicate with Owner's Construction Management staff and Contractor's Site Management Team.
Ability to manage, control, and report safety incidents in a timely manner in accordance with OSHA regulations and Owner's Requirements.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat and other basic software programs used in Construction.

Nice To Haves

Construction management, safety management, safety engineer or related degree is preferred.
Additional safety/health certifications and credentials as appropriate for this position.
Current 40-Hour HAZWOPER.
Current OSHA 500 (Trainer in Occupational Safety and Health Standards for the Construction Industry).

Responsibilities

Manage safety for modernization/renovation projects involving abatement, remediation of hazardous materials, and hazardous material waste removal and handling (e.g., asbestos, lead-based paint).
Manage OCIP programs.
Ensure all certificates and credentials are active and current.
