About The Position

The Safety & Industrial Hygiene Engineer ensures a safe, healthy, and compliant work environment by leading occupational safety, industrial hygiene, and emergency management support activities. This role interprets regulatory and contractual requirements; reviews submittals for compliance; and recommends effective controls and process improvements. This position collaborates across departments and with other contractors and the NASA Agency.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental, industrial, physical science, safety and health, engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum 8 years of Occupational Safety and Health experience directly supporting facility operations, maintenance, and engineering activities on government installation(s).
  • Industrial Hygienist certification from the Board for Global EHS Credentialing required.
  • Must hold one of the following credentials: FL Licensed Architect, FL Professional Engineer, FL Professional Geologist, Diplomate of ABIH (CIH), Certified Safety Professional (CSP).
  • Must be a U.S. citizen and able to obtain and maintain required clearances/badges as required by program and position.
  • Must have the ability to communicate in English, both verbal and written in an effective manner.
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license.
  • Must complete and continuing education required to maintain required certifications.

  • Certified Hazardous Materials Manager accreditation from the Institute of Hazardous Materials Managers.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as a contract subject matter resource to ensure compliance with Occupational Safety and Health, Environmental, and Quality programs, including, but not limited to, air/bulk sampling for hazardous materials, asbestos/hazardous metals/mold/silica, audits and inspections, biohazards, engineering controls/ventilation, ergonomics, evacuation/emergency planning, fall protection, hazard communication, hazardous materials management systems, indoor air quality, lockout/tagout, noise and hearing conservation, permit-required confined spaces, personal protective equipment, radiation, sanitation, bloodborne pathogens, and thermal stress.
  • Coordinates exposure assessments.
  • Develops, implements, and maintains comprehensive safety-related plans and procedures and instructions.
  • Participates in government-sponsored working groups, training, and continuing education.
  • Reviews in-house and subcontractor project submittals for compliance with requirements and approve/disapprove submittals as appropriate.
  • Serves as the contract Emergency Management Coordinator; liaison for government emergency management functions.
  • Participates as a member of the hurricane and tropical storm Ride-Out Team and Damage Assessment and Recovery Team or other emergency scenarios as appropriate.
  • Performs Job Hazard Analysis assessing risks and identifying control measures to minimize hazards.
  • Conducts comprehensive audits/inspections and recommend corrective and preventative actions to ensure safe and healthy working conditions.
  • Develops metrics (e.g., leading and lagging indicators) to help achieve company goals and objectives.
  • Ensures compliance with company, OSHA, ANSI, KNPR, KDP and other applicable state and federal regulations.
