About The Position

The Safety & Health Specialist is responsible for delivering expert technical assistance and consultative services on safety and well-being to designated business units. The specialist will lead both the well-being champion network and the safety council, collaborating closely with corporate communications to distribute company-wide safety messages. Additionally, the position manages all well-being programs and initiatives, ensuring their effective implementation across the organization.

Requirements

  • Excellent proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) is required
  • Must have Southern Company experience and/or 3 years' experience working with wellness initiatives
  • Great customer service skills and customer-focused attitude
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain positive business relationships
  • Demonstrate outstanding oral and written communication and project management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to develop presentations and speak publicly to a variety of audiences
  • Strong planning, organizing, coordinating, problem solving and decision-making skills.
  • Demonstrates the capability to foster engagement and secure stakeholder commitment.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Public Health, Health Sciences, or related is preferred
  • Knowledge and experience in the design and implementation of programs and procedures preferred

Responsibilities

  • Oversee project management for Wellbeing-related initiatives.
  • Administer the MPC Well Being Champion Network.
  • Facilitate training sessions for MPC Wellbeing Champions.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with the Southern Company Wellbeing Team.
  • Communicate available Wellbeing resources to employees and leadership.
  • Coordinate and support Wellbeing events.
  • Develop content pertinent to Wellbeing efforts.
  • Distribute Wellbeing materials to various workgroups within the organization.
  • Promote engagement in Wellbeing programs.
  • Collaborate with Corporate Communications to disseminate Wellbeing information throughout the company.
  • Design and maintain resources supporting Wellbeing initiatives.
  • Manage the MPC Safety Council.
  • Provide safety committee training for newly appointed members.
  • Lead a company-wide safety workshop for all committee chairs, fostering the sharing of best practices.
  • Compile resources such as videos, presentations, and banners to further safety committee initiatives.
