About The Position

Iron Oak Energy is seeking a dynamic Safety & Health Coordinator to join their Operations team at the Wedron Silica location in Wedron, IL. This role is responsible for administering, monitoring, and ensuring compliance with the Company’s Safety and Health program, adhering to both Corporate and governmental standards, codes, acts, regulations, and policies for all employees, vendors, and contractors on site. The coordinator will play a key role in developing, implementing, and managing the site's health and safety system, ensuring it meets or exceeds regulatory requirements, and fostering a culture of safety through training, inspections, and proactive intervention.

Requirements

  • Proficient in Word, Excel and knowledge of ERP databases.
  • Strong experience in industrial/mining safety and health programs
  • Must be able to wear a respirator and other required personal protective equipment
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • If no college degree, then incumbent must have a minimum of five (5) years’ relevant supervisory experience in health and safety specifically at a mining or heavy construction facility
  • MSHA Part 46 or 48 Training Certification and/or previous exposure to surface and dredge mining with aggregates in a plant environment a plus

Responsibilities

  • Administer, monitor, and ensure compliance of the Company’s Safety and Health program.
  • Develop, facilitate, implement, train, and manage the site's health and safety system.
  • Stop unsafe acts and coach employees for improvement.
  • Inspect the plant monthly and submit written reports to leadership.
  • Develop and maintain a regular area inspection program and Behavior Based Safety (BBS) observation system.
  • Track and report plant safety KPIs.
  • Maintain and direct an active safety training program, including MSHA Training and Monthly Safety Meetings.
  • Maintain and update a prioritized list of safety items requiring attention.
  • Schedule and conduct monthly Safety Team inspections.
  • Schedule and coordinate annual audiograms and physicals for all site employees.
  • Accompany Health & Safety inspectors during onsite inspections.
  • Coordinate and assist in scheduling Supervisor First-Aid, CPR, and AED training.
  • Perform and monitor respirable dust surveys.
  • Perform and monitor noise exposure surveys.
  • Direct the plant's Hearing Conservation Programs.
  • Investigate and prepare reports of accidents/injuries, property damage, and near-miss accidents.
  • Monitor and restock supplies in plant first-aid centers.
  • Maintain and distribute personal protective equipment.
  • Monitor the fire extinguisher program.
  • Maintain required reporting schedule of Safety & Health data in USIS.
  • Prepare and submit the MSHA quarterly report.
  • Prepare and submit MSHA Form 7000-1 (Accident, Injury, and Illness Report) when a reportable accident occurs.
  • Prepare and maintain a record of all employee safety training, including MSHA Form 5000-23 (Certificate of Training).
  • Prepare and maintain all records and data connected with Worker's Compensation issues.
  • Develop and maintain communications with local medical facilities/clinics regarding restricted duty work programs.
  • Maintain communications with the Corporate Safety & Health Department.
  • Make all arrangements for drug testing pursuant to company policy.
  • Provide transportation for any persons deemed unfit to operate a motor vehicle.
  • Administer the safety boot and eyeglass program.
  • Recommend changes in plant procedures or policy to improve health and safety.
  • Act as secretary, facilitator, and salaried representative of the plant safety committee and schedule regular meetings.
  • Act as a contributing member of the Regional Safety and Health Team.
  • Act as a back-up on environmental monitoring and compliance to the QC/ Environmental Supervisor.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
