About The Position

Provide leadership in health and safety by demonstrating and upholding all safe work rules, procedures and practices, and addressing any unsafe acts and conditions as required. The 2nd Shift Safety Coordinator will take a pro-active approach with training, audits, and inspections to drive for a goal of increasing positive safety culture.

Requirements

  • OSHA knowledge required
  • OSHA 30 Certification will be required within the 1st year of employment.
  • First Aid, CPR and AED certification will be required within the 1st year of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Environmental Management or Industrial Hygiene preferred.
  • Safety experience in a manufacturing environment, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead safety on 2nd shift with full participation of supervisors, employees and management.
  • Conduct daily safety audit inspections of the production and maintenance activities relative to OSHA Standards to help detect accident and health hazards.
  • Audit lockout required task and ensure employees are effectively following lockout procedures.
  • Observe and document concerns and observations.
  • Assist in delivering new hire orientation sessions and refresher sessions as needed.
  • Assist in delivering other EHS related trainings as needed.
  • Assist in accident/incident investigations – help with investigative process as well as ensuring follow up actions are applicable and completed in a timely fashion.
  • Be visible throughout the mill and engage employees to drive self-accountability for safe work practices, a reduction in risk taken and the elimination of complacency.
  • Responsible for training new employees on safety with assistance of co-workers, supervisors and management.
  • Responsible for fire prevention measures. Conduct routine inspections to identify problems areas. Work with supervisors and management to promptly correct deficient areas. Follow up to make sure implementation occurs.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of manufacturing safety action plans including emergency response planning and drills.
  • Ensure supervisors are enforcing safety rules in their area.
  • Responsible for maintaining knowledge of OSHA regulations and company policies to ensure compliance. Directs the dissemination of new regulations and policies or changes to existing regulations and policies.
  • Administer first aid and coordinate treatment for injuries requiring treatment above first aid.
  • Attend and assist with all production safety meetings.
