About The Position

Chimera Enterprises is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Safety and Suitability Clerk (SSEB Clerk) to support the U.S. Coast Guard National Maritime Center (NMC) Mariner Credentialing Program. The successful candidate will provide essential clerical and secretarial support to ensure the efficient daily operations of the Safety and Suitability Branch (SSEB), which is responsible for vetting merchant mariner applicants. The mission is to facilitate the swift and accurate processing of merchant mariner credentials by providing foundational administrative, database management, and correspondence support to the Safety and Suitability Branch, ensuring seamless office operations.

Requirements

• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple administrative tasks efficiently.
• Proficiency in database management, data entry, and utilizing electronic filing systems.
• Excellent written communication skills for drafting and sending professional emails to applicants.
• Keen attention to detail to spot errors or discrepancies in complex application systems.
• Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team supporting a high-volume processing branch.
• Previous experience in clerical, administrative, data entry, or office management roles.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a favorable security screening/USCG Suitability determination.

Nice To Haves

• Experience working with credentialing databases, government systems, or handling sensitive information (PII) is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive clerical support and secretarial services to maintain the efficient operation of the Safety and Suitability Branch (SSEB).
• Locate and manage electronic applications within the agency's systems.
• Manage outgoing correspondence, including drafting, formatting, and emailing official communications to mariners regarding their application status.
• Review, identify, and edit discrepancies within the Merchant Mariner Licensing and Documentation (MMLD) system to ensure data integrity.
• Handle and process Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) information securely and accurately.
• Maintain office supply inventories, ensuring the branch is adequately stocked for daily operations.
• Prepare physical correspondence for mailing to mariners when required.
