About The Position

Block by Block employs Ambassadors to help make public spaces friendlier, safer, and cleaner. The Safety Ambassador patrols an assigned zone on foot and/or by bike, helps pedestrians and visitors, observes and reports unwanted behavior or criminal activity, and engages with local businesses. The role requires a positive, professional demeanor and the ability to prepare basic daily reports in English. Work is outdoors in all conditions and involves continuous walking or traversing, including riding a bike, during an eight-hour shift, with two 15-minute breaks and a 30-minute lunch break.

Requirements

• Valid Florida Class D Security Licensure.
• High school diploma or GED.
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Ability to walk or traverse, including riding a bike, continuously during an eight-hour shift, with two 15-minute breaks and a 30-minute lunch break.
• Ability to work outdoors in all conditions.
• Ability to speak, read, and write English to complete basic reports.

Nice To Haves

• Valid Florida driver's license preferred.

Responsibilities

• Patrol the assigned zone on foot and/or by bike to deter unwanted behavior and watch for concerning activity.
• Provide information, assistance, and directions to pedestrians and visitors.
• Maintain a positive, professional demeanor.
• Observe unwanted behavior or criminal activity and report it to local authorities using established communication methods.
• Accurately describe people, vehicles, and other identifiers.
• Firmly and courteously request compliance from people violating low-level quality-of-life rules, including those involving panhandling, loitering, or disruptive behavior.
• Acknowledge and engage pedestrians with a friendly greeting or smile and provide directions and city information.
• Visit a specified number of zone businesses to share information and gather contact information.
• Complete basic daily reports of tasks completed.
