About The Position

Block by Block California employs Ambassadors to make public spaces friendlier, safer, and cleaner for the communities they serve. The Safety Ambassador patrols an assigned zone on foot and/or by bike, assists pedestrians and visitors, and helps identify and report unwanted behavior or criminal activity. The role requires a friendly, positive, and professional approach, including providing directions and city information, engaging with pedestrians, and visiting zone businesses. Training is provided. The position works overnight and requires the physical ability to walk or ride a bike continuously during an eight-hour shift, work outdoors in all conditions, and complete basic written reports in English.

Requirements

• Active Guard Card; Guard Card is required.
• Previous experience working an overnight shift and ability to work third shift.
• High school diploma or GED.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Physical capacity to walk or traverse, including riding a bike, continuously during an eight-hour shift, with two 15-minute breaks and a 30-minute lunch break.
• Ability to work outdoors in all conditions.
• Ability to speak, read, and write English to complete basic reports.

Responsibilities

• Patrol the assigned zone on foot and/or by bike to deter unwanted behavior and remain alert to activity.
• Provide information, assistance, and directions to pedestrians and visitors while maintaining a positive, professional demeanor.
• Observe unwanted behavior or criminal activity and report it to local authorities through established communication methods.
• Accurately describe people, vehicles, and other identifying details when reporting activity.
• Firmly and courteously request compliance from people engaging in low-level quality-of-life violations, such as panhandling, loitering, or disruptive behavior.
• Acknowledge and engage pedestrians with a friendly greeting or smile and provide directions and city information.
• Visit a specified number of businesses in the zone to share information and gather contact information.
• Complete basic daily reports of tasks performed.
