About The Position

Block by Block employs Ambassadors to make public spaces friendlier, safer, and cleaner for the communities they serve. The Safety Ambassador patrols an assigned zone on foot and/or by bike, helps pedestrians and visitors, and watches for unwanted behavior or criminal activity. The role also includes engaging with local businesses, requesting compliance with low-level quality-of-life rules, and completing basic daily reports. Work is outdoors in all conditions and involves continuous walking or riding a bike during an eight-hour shift, with two 15-minute breaks and a 30-minute lunch break.

Requirements

• Experience required; training will be provided.
• Valid Florida Class D Security Licensure required.
• High school diploma or GED required.
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Must be able to walk or traverse, including riding a bike, continuously during an eight-hour shift, with two 15-minute breaks and a 30-minute lunch break.
• Must be able to work outdoors in all conditions.
• Must be able to speak, read, and write English to create basic reports.

Nice To Haves

• Valid Florida driver's license preferred.

Responsibilities

• Patrol the assigned zone on foot and/or by bike as a deterrent, watching for unwanted behavior and activity.
• Provide information, assistance, and directions to pedestrians and visitors while maintaining a positive, professional demeanor.
• Observe unwanted behavior or criminal activity and report it to local authorities using established communication methods.
• Accurately describe people, vehicles, and other identifying details.
• Firmly and courteously request compliance from people violating low-level quality-of-life rules, including panhandling, loitering, and disruptive behavior.
• Greet and engage pedestrians to provide directions and city information.
• Make a specified number of visits to zone businesses to share information and gather contact information.
• Complete basic daily reports of tasks performed.
