About The Position

At Block by Block, we employ Ambassadors to make public spaces better by making them friendlier, safer, and cleaner for the communities we serve. The Safety Ambassador role involves patrolling assigned zones on foot and/or bike to deter unwanted behavior and activity. Ambassadors provide information, assistance, and directions to pedestrians and visitors, maintaining a positive and professional demeanor. They are responsible for identifying and reporting unwanted behaviors or criminal activity to local authorities, articulating accurate descriptions of persons, vehicles, and other identifiers. The role also includes courteously requesting compliance from individuals violating low-level quality of life crimes and actively engaging pedestrians with friendly greetings to provide directions and city information. Additionally, Safety Ambassadors make specified visits to zone businesses to share information and gather contact details, and complete basic daily reports.

Requirements

  • Valid TX Driver's License required.
  • Ability to ride a bicycle required.
  • Experience required. We will train.
  • Must have a H.S. Diploma or GED
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must have the physical capacity to walk or traverse (including riding a bike) continuously during an eight-hour shift, with two 15-minute breaks and a 30-minute lunch break.
  • Must be able to work outdoors in all conditions (free uniforms provided)
  • Must be able to speak, read, and write the English language in order to create basic reports.

Responsibilities

  • Patrol the assigned zone on foot and/or bike as a deterrent and be on the lookout for unwanted behavior and activity.
  • Provide information, assistance, and directions to pedestrians and visitors. Must maintain a positive, professional demeanor at all times.
  • Be watchful for unwanted behaviors or criminal activity and report to local authorities via established communication methods. Must be able to articulate an accurate description of persons, vehicles, and other identifiers.
  • Firmly and courteously request compliance from persons violating low-level quality of life crimes, such as panhandling, loitering, disruptive behavior, etc.
  • Actively acknowledge and engage pedestrians with a friendly greeting/smile in order to provide directions and city information.
  • Responsible for making a specified number of visits to zone businesses to share information and gather contact information.
  • Must be able to complete basic daily reports of tasks completed, which requires being proficient in speaking, reading, and writing the English language.
