Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of the safe and proper procedures for operating railroad maintenance hand and power tools and railroad maintenance equipment.
  • Ability to communicate in written and verbal English language with prior record keeping experience.
  • Strong leadership interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of FTSS and FRWS.
  • Ability to be Qualified on AUTHORITY’s examinations for 49 CFR Part 213.7 of FTSS and the GCOR related to these regulations at the Start Date.
  • Previously qualified with a railroad to provide workplace protection under FRWS and to inspect track and supervise restoration of track under FTSS.
  • Knowledge of the physical layout and operation of the Authority rail system.
  • Knowledge of the time for completion and the cost of repair for track and right-of-way facilities, and the ability to make value judgments regarding economic repair and/or replacement of these facilities.
  • Ability to inspect track and supervise the work of others for compliance of FRA.
  • Ability to complete work under time pressures and to maintain composure under the stress of emergency situations.
  • Ability to perform scheduled and unscheduled repair or construction work at any time on any day of the week.
  • Subject to pre-employment background check and motor vehicle report review.
  • Subject to pre-employment physical, medical evaluation, and drug screen due to the safety sensitive nature of this position.
  • Successfully complete and maintain any required safety certification and testing on an annual basis.

Nice To Haves

  • A minimum of one year experience as a Track Flagger/RWIC or Track Repair Leader.

Responsibilities

  • Provides protection for the work activities of other parties engaged in work on the railroad right-of-way by performing safety briefings and issuing instructions to these parties.
  • Coordinates work with the Authority’s Train Operations Contractor.
  • Communicates by radio with train operators to authorize train movement through work area.
  • Observes railroad tracks for approaching trains.
  • Issues audible warnings to workers concerning the approach of trains.
  • Directs the discontinuance of specific work practices until after train(s) have passed work location.
  • Observes work practices of the other parties.
  • Observes the workplace for unsafe conditions.
  • Installs and removes temporary signs for the control of train movements.
  • Engages, participates in, and promotes Herzog’s Culture and its essential behaviors.
  • Maintains regular and predictable attendance and punctuality.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
