About The Position

The ideal candidate will perform in the role of a Russian/Ukrainian Senior Linguist and will be responsible for the full range of activities in processing material or participating in situations requiring advanced capability to perform translation, transcription and interpretation in support of the US Interagency work. In addition, the incumbent will perform “ancillary” linguistic activities, which include but are not limited to the following, are: blogging, collection, content management, editing, language training, monitoring, quality control, scanning, selection, subject matter expertise, summarizing/gisting, terminology management, translation-related services, triage, workflow, writing reports, writing analysis. Ensuring professional performance during working hours; demonstrating appropriate personal behavior during leisure hours.

Requirements

• Near native proficiency in reading, writing and speaking in the Russian/Ukrainian languages.
• Near native proficiency in reading, writing and speaking in English.
• Good understanding of regional dialects.
• Adherence to translation/transcription/interpretation protocols.
• Very good computer skills MS applications, Internet research.
• Ability to review another linguist’s work for accuracy of content and quality of written expression commensurate with his/her own ability as a translator.
• Must be a U.S. Citizen.
• Must possess and maintain a Top-Secret security clearance for the duration of employment.
• Must possess the “customers” Intelligence clearance TS/SCI FS Polygraph.
• Bachelor’s Degree is required.
• 5-10 or more years professional work experience.
• Strong interpretation skills.
• Able to perform full range of activities as a linguist i.e. translation, transcription, interpretation.
• Advanced professional capabilities.
• TA testing requirements must pass at a level 4 or higher.
• SLR Testing Requirements for translation or interpretation on interagency language roundtable must pass at 4/4/4 or higher.
• Willingness to travel OCONUS.

Responsibilities

• Translation of a wide variety of complex texts that may contain difficult, idiomatic, scientific, and colloquial writing, capturing subtleties, nuance, tone and register. Text might include commentary reflecting specific culture to analysis to argumentation and translator can capture meaning of socio-cultural elements embedded in text. Expression reflects native usage. Translate from target language to English of highly technical documents.
• Interpretation at virtually all levels, including complex or highly complex idiomatic speech with a very high degree of accuracy.
• Transcription of audio materials, writing/transcribing information from target language into English with a high-degree of accuracy and expression.
• Familiarity with communications collection equipment and basic knowledge on its operation.
• Familiarity with basic investigative terminology and trends and any relative concerns regarding the investigations.
• Familiarity with minimization requirements for intercepted communications and proper handling instructions.
• Prompt and regular attendance.
• Other duties as assigned by senior FedSys management.
