About The Position

Role players provide rotational training units (RTU) with a realistic contemporary operational environment (COE) by portraying general noncombatants, special characters, cultural noncombatants, Host Nation officials/US Government officials, and Non-Government Officials (NGOs). This adds realism and complexity to the operational challenges faced by the RTU. The role play activity takes place in up to 12 mock villages within the training areas of Fort Johnson, focusing on a regional or district government with self-governing local villages. Interpreters may also be assigned civilian role-play character assignments, such as local officials or important personalities. Senior Interpreters may also serve in key civilian role-playing roles, including political, military, and religious leaders. Subject Matter Experts provide instruction on basic target language phrases and ethnic-oriented customs and culture.

Requirements

  • Must have resided in the United States for 18 consecutive months prior to employment for screening by G-2.
  • Fluent in the target language of Russian.
  • Must be able to access Ft Johnson and other military facilities.
  • Ability to speak, read, and write in both English and target language at the Defense Language Proficiency Test (DLPT) 3 level or equivalent.
  • Ability to convincingly portray a wide variety of skills.
  • Must be able to perform rotational duties as military interpreters for the RTU (Type 2).
  • Must have special professional qualifications and/or knowledge in accordance with specific rotational exercise requirements (Type 3).
  • Personnel with cultural experience for a target country or region to provide a realistic cultural training experience, primarily in Russia (Type 4).
  • Lived in Russia for an extended period of time or have recent (last 5 years) experience in Russia (Type 4).
  • Possess a high degree of familiarity with Russian language, culture, history, religion, customs, and courtesies (Type 4).
  • Must pass a pre-hire background check, base screening, and agree to random on demand substance abuse checks.
  • All cultural role players will be Counterintelligence (CI) screened as a condition of employment.
  • Subject matter experts may be required to possess a Secret security clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous Russian government service or experience as a member of the Armed Forces of Russia are preferred (Type 4).
  • Desired experience may include military, para-military, police officer, civil service employee of a ministry of defense, interior, agriculture, public health, customs/border control, judge, lawyer, government prosecutor, tribal, religious leader, teacher and/or professor in Russia (Type 4).
  • Practical interpreting experience, preferably in the government sector (Senior Interpreters).
  • Sufficient field experience as translators in the target language to train other cultural role players in translator duties and for Quality Assurance and Quality Control purposes (Subject Matter Experts).

Responsibilities

  • Portray the populous of the rotational scenario for the target region and other roles, possessing requisite knowledge, background, and linguistic ability.
  • Execute verbal/written role-play instructions, including comprehensive guidance for the character, required actions, dates, times, locations, uniforms, special and minimum equipment, themes, and information to be divulged, without deviation unless directed.
  • Remain in specific training town, village, or base camp overnight on a rotating basis.
  • Be transported in civilian/military wheeled, track, or air transportation.
  • Wear role-play uniforms, civilian attire, and equipment as per character profile and to role-play standards.
  • Interpret basic military terminology, instructions, and conversational level content.
  • Interpret political-military terminology and concepts for senior military and civilian leaders.
  • Support personal “Engagement Training” to key members of the RTU.
  • Provide instruction or assist in instruction on basic target language phrases, as well as ethnic-oriented customs and culture.
  • Comply with applicable installation, facility, and area commander installation/facility access and local security policies.
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
