About The Position

Role players are essential for creating a realistic contemporary operational environment (COE) for rotational training units (RTU). They portray various characters, including general noncombatants, special characters, cultural noncombatants, Host Nation officials, US Government officials, and Non-Government Officials (NGOs), within up to 12 mock villages at Fort Johnson. The focus is on a regional or district government with self-governing local villages. Interpreters and Senior Interpreters also play crucial roles, interpreting military terminology and concepts, supporting senior military and civilian leaders, and acting as key civilian role players. Subject Matter Experts provide instruction on basic target language phrases and cultural customs. Access control and general duties are also part of the role.

Requirements

  • Must have resided in the United States for 18 consecutive months prior to employment for screening by G-2.
  • Fluent in the target language of Korean.
  • Must be able to access Ft Johnson and other military facilities (Real ID may be required).
  • Ability to speak, read, and write in both English and the target language at the Defense Language Proficiency Test (DLPT) 3 level or equivalent (for Type 1, 2, 3, and 4).
  • Ability to convincingly portray a wide variety of skills (for Type 1).
  • Must be able to perform rotational duties as military interpreters for the RTU (for Type 2).
  • Must have special professional qualifications and/or knowledge in accordance with specific rotational exercise requirements (for Type 3).
  • Personnel with cultural experience for a target country or region, primarily in Korea (for Type 4).
  • Cultural role players will have lived in Korea for an extended period or have recent (last 5 years) experience in Korea (for Type 4).
  • Possess a high degree of familiarity with Korean language, culture, history, religion, customs, and courtesies (for Type 4).
  • Must pass a pre-hire background check, base screening, and agree to random on demand substance abuse checks.
  • All cultural role players will be Counterintelligence (CI) screened as a condition of employment.
  • Individuals who have not been previously screened shall have a completed SF85P & OFI 86C when they arrive at Fort Johnson.
  • Subject matter experts may be required to possess a Secret security clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous Korean government service or experience as a member of the Armed Forces of Korea is preferred (for Type 4).
  • Desired experience may include military, para-military, police officer, civil service employee of a ministry of defense, interior, agriculture, public health, customs/border control, judge, lawyer, government prosecutor, tribal, religious leader, teacher and/or professor in Korea (for Type 4).
  • Practical interpreting experience, preferably in the government sector (for Senior Interpreters).
  • Sufficient field experience as translators in the target language to train other cultural role players in translator duties and for Quality Assurance and Quality Control purposes (for Subject Matter Experts).
  • Personnel capable of fulfilling Subject Matter Expert requirements identified from within the pool of CRP used for rotational support.

Responsibilities

  • Portray the populous of the rotational scenario for the target region and other roles, possessing requisite knowledge, background, and linguistic ability.
  • Receive and execute verbal/written role-play instructions, including character guidance, required actions, dates, times, locations, uniforms, equipment, themes, and information to be divulged, without deviation unless directed.
  • Remain in specific training towns, villages, or base camps overnight on a rotating basis.
  • Be transported in civilian/military wheeled, track, or air transportation.
  • Wear issued role-play uniforms, civilian attire, and equipment according to character profiles and role-play standards.
  • Interpret basic military terminology, instructions, and conversational content for U.S. Army units and staff.
  • Perform civilian role-play assignments as local officials, important personalities, or other required roles.
  • Be available to support rotational requirements 24 hours a day, potentially living in an assigned base camp.
  • Conduct foot patrols of up to 5 kilometers in day or night, all-weather conditions, while wearing assigned military equipment.
  • Interpret political-military terminology and concepts for senior military and civilian leaders.
  • Support personal “Engagement Training” for key members of the RTU.
  • Serve in key civilian role-playing roles, including political, military, and religious leaders.
  • Provide instruction or assist in instruction on basic target language phrases and ethnic-oriented customs and culture.
  • Comply with applicable installation, facility, and area commander installation/facility access and local security policies.
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
