About The Position

The YMCA has been part of life in Newfoundland and Labrador since 1854. Our charity’s core programs of Health, Fitness, and Aquatics; Child Care and Day Camp; and Employment, Enterprise, and Newcomer Services are offered at more than 200 locations and points of delivery in our communities throughout the province. Our focus on inclusiveness and accessibility means we serve people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities through all stages of life. We are seeking a Program Coordinator, Rural and Remote Communities to engage with local newcomers and their families in the Placentia, Bonavista Peninsula and Burin Peninsula to support integration into their communities. The Program Coordinator will be responsible for organizing and facilitating group activities for newcomers that support; healthy, and active living for all ages, with a special emphasis on seniors and youth. The Program Coordinator will support the growth and improvement for English language skills, creating community connection through group and local events. Fostering youth leadership, and intergenerational activities both in person and virtually.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate Degree in Education, Social Work, Social Sciences or an acceptable combination of education and relevant experience
  • Minimum two years experience working in a Program Coordinator or Lead position
  • Experience working with community partners in a developmental role
  • Experience working with Microsoft Office Suites
  • Strong understanding and knowledge of positive youth developmental practices
  • Valid Newfoundland driver's licence and access to a vehicle
  • Criminal Records Check and Vulnerable Sectors Checks are reviewed on an individual basis

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with newcomers in a recreation/community setting is considered an asset
