About The Position

The Rural Health Advocate (RHA) position is housed within Frontier AHEC and serves the broader Nevada AHEC network. This role advances healthcare workforce development and community health initiatives in rural and frontier Nevada. The position acts as a liaison among healthcare employers, educational institutions, community partners, and residents to identify workforce needs, develop strategic partnerships, support healthcare career pathway programming, and facilitate community-based care navigation and referral efforts. Through collaboration with local and statewide stakeholders, the position supports the university's public service mission by strengthening healthcare workforce pipelines and expanding access to healthcare resources in underserved communities. This is a part-time position.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree and two years of related work experience; OR a master’s degree and one year of related work experience
  • Experience in program coordination or program management
  • Experience in workforce development, community engagement, public health, education, or a related field
  • Nevada driver’s license

Responsibilities

  • Develop and sustain healthcare career pathways for rural students, connecting them to job shadowing, mentorship, internships, certifications, and employment opportunities.
  • Coordinate student transitions into workforce experiences.
  • Support recruitment and retention strategies that prioritize local workforce development within rural communities.
  • Build and maintain partnerships with employers, educational institutions, tribal organizations, and community partners.
  • Conduct workforce needs assessments.
  • Connect individuals to healthcare, behavioral health, and social services.
  • Strengthen referral pathways between healthcare providers, community organizations, and support services.
