About The Position

Hamilton County Schools (HCS) is seeking an RTI Teacher to coordinate Response to Intervention (RTI) programs across the school. This role involves supporting and monitoring the school's implementation of the RTI model to increase student achievement and contribute to HCS RTI goals. The RTI Teacher will help build capacity within the school to understand RTI as a valued practice for student growth, not just compliance. They will support educational leaders, teachers, interventionists, and stakeholders in recognizing the necessity of RTI for students who haven't met academic goals. Lookout Mountain Elementary, a K-5 school with a highly involved parent population and community support, is looking for teachers who are professional, reliable, collaborative, highly qualified, knowledgeable of Tennessee content state standards, and willing to work with supportive families.

Requirements

  • B.S./B.A. in education or human service related field
  • Valid state of Tennessee teaching certification or upcoming graduates in an accredited teacher preparation program. If a valid teaching license is held in another state you must apply for a Tennessee teaching license.
  • Two years' experience in teaching or services to individuals with disabilities
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures relating to students with disabilities.
  • Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills to deal effectively with students, educators, Board members, parents, and community members.
  • Experienced in math and/or literacy instruction.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as the school’s RTI Facilitator for 50-80% of the school day.
  • Attends monthly RTI Facilitator meetings and District In-Service for RTI.
  • Redelivers content from RTI Facilitator meetings and District In-Service to all relevant school staff.
  • Completes Fidelity Checks for tier 2 and tier 3 instruction.
  • Coaches, supports and mentors tier 2 and tier 3 instructors in effective practices.
  • Serves as a tier 2 and tier 3 content advisor to teachers and administrators.
  • Supports school in implementation of dyslexia instruction and plans.
  • Plans and delivers effective instruction in tier 2 and/or tier 3 for 20-50% of the school day.
  • Ensures all instruction is tightly aligned with the HCS RTI Framework.
  • Designs lessons based on best practices with clear learning targets and measurable goals.
  • Frequently plans collaboratively with colleagues to enhance student’s reading and/or math needs.
  • Conveys high expectations while using multiple effective strategies, materials, and classroom practices that involve and motivate students while differentiating instruction to meet the students’ reading and/or math needs.
  • Uses student data, colleagues, and self-reflection on instructional practice to continually improve instruction and student outcomes.
  • Models best practices in instruction aligned to Academic Press & Personalization Framework and HCS RTI Framework.
  • Fosters positive relationships through the school.
  • Provides a well-structured and engaging learning environment by utilizing effective classroom procedures and routines while showing caring, respect, and fairness for all students.
  • Collaborates with instructional coaches to strengthen understanding of RTI goals and accelerate learning.
  • Collaborates with colleagues and provides feedback to strengthen RTI instruction.
  • Engages family and community to support students that are below grade-level.
  • Consistently develops strong relationships with students’ families.
  • Leads school process for notifying and updating parents on their child’s need for intervention, including sending out state required Home Literacy Letters.
  • Provides opportunities for parents to be involved in their children’s learning.
  • Actively seeks out opportunities to collaborate with colleagues and other stakeholders in order to improve teaching & learning.
  • Reflects on own instruction and leadership while contributing ideas, expertise, and time to the mission and goals of the school.
  • Performs all other duties assigned that support students who are below grade-level.
