RPPP Group Leader (Adult Family Educator)

About The Position

The Parent Group Leader is responsible for planning and guiding bi-weekly parent activities. The Parent Group Leader has the joint responsibility with the Pre-Kindergarten teacher and paraprofessional for planning and implementing the learning experiences of parents/ surrogate parents who serve as volunteers in the Pre-Kindergarten classroom. Parent Group Leaders also make home visits, plan and execute adult field trips, and provide resources for families to support learning at home.

Requirements

Four years of college / Adult Education Certificate
Skills in group process
Group experience as a participant as well as a leader
Experience in working with urban families, children and staff from diverse racial, social, ethnic and educational backgrounds
Experience and ability to work in a cooperative team atmosphere
Effective communication skills when interacting with children, families, staff, and community

Responsibilities

Support and follow current district and department policies.
Recruit and facilitate the enrollment of families in the Preschool and encourage the parent/ surrogate parent to participate in family activities and childrens program.
Provide an appropriate framework for the development of group process: By setting the climate for group discussion which enables adults to discuss their real concerns and anxieties without fear of judgment or criticism. By universalizing feelings. By establishing rapport with individual parent and to work with a variety of individual differences within a group. By developing the content of discussion out of the needs and concerns of the group members.
Accurately completing accurate required paperwork and reports within the established timeline.
Be informed and prepared to provide stimulating and thought-provoking topics on issues suggested by parents and around the growth and development of children.
Provide time for and facilitate the parents report of their experience in the classroom.
Foster the learning of group members to help them increase their understanding of all of the children and to gain insight and understanding of their own feelings and attitudes.
With the Childrens Teacher or classroom Paraprofessional, meet each parent and child before entry into the program at an Orientation Event or through a home visit.
Maintain ongoing home school communications (home visits, telephone calls, email).
Collaborate with the pre-kindergarten teacher and paraprofessional to provide a support network for children and their families.
Responsible for building and maintaining working relationships with other RCSD school personnel, principal, teachers, and student educational services.
Shares responsibility for the ongoing development and functioning of a cohesive educational team.
Maintain weekly conferencing with the Teacher and Paraprofessionals regarding program issues/ objectives involving children and families.
With the Childrens Teacher, plan for, schedule, and attend two parent conferences (mid-year and end of year) regarding childs growth and development.
Responsible for continuous, year long recruitment to enroll eligible students to maintain enrollment expectations.
Assist families in locating and accessing community resources.
Explain and promote confidentiality.
Attend and participate in a monthly RPPP Staff Development Meeting and a monthly Supervisory meeting.
Attend district and school functions to promote goals of the Early Childhood Department.
Participate in UPK (Universal Pre-Kindergarten) Staff Development Workshop.
Strives toward continuous professional improvement and growth (attending workshops, reading professional literature, preparing presentations for staff or early childhood groups).
Promote and facilitate the habit of parent involvement which will stay with parents throughout their childs education.
